Not true. I just bought a 1440p ultrawide and my gpu could not output 1440p at higher than 30fps over HDMI. I had to use display port to get it to display at higher fps. If his laptop doesn't have display port he may be limited to 30fps which sucks for productivity use.

How does this compare to image clarity of Dell Ultrasharp U2719D[dell.com]?
Not for gaming and not for graphic design; regular home office use, like coding.
Should I be concerned about 60hz? I am on two Nec EA231WMi, both are 10-yr old and still good, so next monitor will likely go for that long, and gotta be good .
Budget is not a constraint, but don't want anything lavish either.
Between this and the 35 in sceptre on Amazon what would you recommend. Strangely despite the bad rap sceptre gets ive gotten two monitors working very well for years. Do occasional gaming but mostly need for high end productivity work.
Pretty much any computer built in the last 4+ years. You can look up your computer specs and find out.

I love my LG 34" 3440x1449 UW. The only kicker is 60hz and the occasional loss of picture for 1-2 seconds. It may be a display port/cable/GPU issue but I've tried a new cable and same thing. I'd love on of these with 200hz + 🙌🏼
What kind of Specs would my Laptop need to Drive this?
I've been using a GTX 1070 with my 3440x1440 for 4 yrs now and I'm very happy with the performance of both. I'll never go back to 1080 but that's just me with my spoiled eyes after four years of higher res.
The CJ791 is where it's at for ultrawide (from Samsung). Relatively inexpensive compared to the asus rog 34" 144hz i believe. Most people won't be able to drive the CJ791 over the 100fps anyways it can handle (100hz)

Let me rephrase that, what kind of Specs are recommended to utilize the full potential of this monitor?
