I had two hero 7 blacks go "bad" on me and was engaged in a 1.5 year fight with them over replacements on and off, only to find out that two out of three Samsung memory cards I bought off of Amazon as FP slick deals were fakes, and actually what caused my cameras to freeze, crash, fail to give me clear files at random. I felt like an idiot. I was so sure it was GoPro's fault.
Amazon gave me refunds for the cards even tho one was over a year old and I threw them in the trash.
Next memory cards I buy will be directly from Best Buy via price matching to Amazon.
First, if you are already a gopro subscriber, they give you an additional discount on the camera. I am not, so I couldn't see what the discount actually was.
When you check out, they break out the subscription cost (49.99) separately from the bundle cost and ask you to acknowledge it. At first, I was confused and thought they were adding this to the total cost, but when I checked out, it wasn't added. I did have to pay tax, and 2-day shipping was free.
Ooh, I bought Costco's HERO8 bundle[costco.com] a couple weeks ago for $290. A few days later I learned about the HERO9. (This was sort of an impulse buy, not well researched.)
If the HERO9 was $400+ by itself like predicted, it's easier to say no it's not worth the difference. If a similar bundle is $400 including the year of subscription, it's more tempting to return the 8 and upgrade to the 9.
*The Costco bundle includes a case which the HERO9 bundle doesn't, but that's not a dealbreaker.
The front screen is nice, and 20mp photos are a big plus... and "30% more battery life" answers my biggest complaint after a week with the HERO8.
I did pretty much the same thing not realizing the 9 was so close. I believe Costco has a 90 day return period for the GoPro so I'll wait and see if any better deals come out in November

Been waiting for this to finally upgrade my Hero 5. I'm excited for the new features and the $150 off with the gopro subscription helps. Now I believe my Hero 5 and Hero 9 are covered by the protection.
I also added the dual charger + spare battery to my order and it applied the 30% off subscriber discount. Total was $437.xx with tax and free 2 day shipping... but the tax amount is way too high.
Once the year is over, what happens to the subscription, does it renew like any subscription? Also, how much is it? Tried looking but couldn't find it. Looking to purchase first GoPro.
Edit: Nevermind. Found it. Seems like there's a separate Terms & Conditions for Subscription.

same boat, I've got like 60 days left to return the Hero 8 to Costco, I'm hoping Costco adds this to their site at a cheaper than gopro.com deal and I'll just jump on it and return the 8.
It's not a bad deal considering i was going to get gopro plus anyways.
Now that Hero9 is out, I am hoping to get Osmo Action for about $150
I dont need 5K video but the front screen is a big plus
All action cams are horrible in low light or night time anyway

That seems to be the best/safest solution.

not worth trading in since it's the same price. Also not sure, but this seems much better than the 7 and 8.
However, I'm confused as to why the videos seem so grainy? Is it normal for GoPro? (never had one)
Thanks!
