I had two hero 7 blacks go "bad" on me and was engaged in a 1.5 year fight with them over replacements on and off, only to find out that two out of three Samsung memory cards I bought off of Amazon as FP slick deals were fakes, and actually what caused my cameras to freeze, crash, fail to give me clear files at random. I felt like an idiot. I was so sure it was GoPro's fault.
Amazon gave me refunds for the cards even tho one was over a year old and I threw them in the trash.
Next memory cards I buy will be directly from Best Buy via price matching to Amazon.
First, if you are already a gopro subscriber, they give you an additional discount on the camera. I am not, so I couldn't see what the discount actually was.
When you check out, they break out the subscription cost (49.99) separately from the bundle cost and ask you to acknowledge it. At first, I was confused and thought they were adding this to the total cost, but when I checked out, it wasn't added. I did have to pay tax, and 2-day shipping was free.
Now that I've purchased the camera, and have the "subscription" it looks like all of the accessories are at least 30% off, and two of them are 50% off.
They've changed the battery again. It is not compatible with the 8. Looking at the specs, the 8 battery is 1220mah, and the 9 battery is 1750mah, significantly larger. They are claiming at least 30% more runtime. bummed my old accessories won't work but happy that it is at least for a good reason.
Who can explain text from GoPro below: If GoPro subscription is purchased as part of a bundled camera promotion, customer may cancel the subscription portion of the bundle post purchase and acknowledges they will be charged the full retail price of the camera.
is it mean that you cannot cancel your subscription during the first year and you gonna be automatically changed for 2nd year? and only after that you can cancel?
From the support of gopro, if this is your first time subscription, you get 30 day Trial. This mean you totally get about 13 month, then you can cancel it at 13th Month.
Giving it a shot, was overdue from an upgrade from an old 4 black. I used a virtual CCN with a October 2020 expiration date, and the order went through. Additionally I found a review over on TechRadar that implies that you can cancel after one year, but I agree the exact wording is a little ambiguous.
Worst case though, it's a extra $50 hit for year two (granted they would have to send a bill with the expiring CCN), but about half of that was made up on the additional discount on the accessories. Just some thoughts.
I am already a GoPro Pro subscriber and it appears I get the privilege of paying $50 extra for the camera without getting the 1 year subscription. When I check out without being logged in, I see the following:
Hero 9 Black $299.99
SanDisk Extreme® 32GB microSDHC™ FREE
1-year Subscription to GoPro: $49.99
When I log in, I see the following:
Hero 9 Black $349.99
SanDisk Extreme® 32GB microSDHC™ FREE
Chatted with their support, at first they said you can't mix promotions. Wasn't trying then pretty much said the price should be $349.99 already having the subscription and and $400 if you don't.

Might be a noob question here, but does the GOPRO PLUS-subscription discount on accessories apply to subsequent orders, after you're subscription is officially live? or can I purchase the H9 *non-bundle and then add on the additional accessories in the same order and get the discounted price on my selected accessories?
Yes.. once the sub is in your cart, the whole site reflects the discounted prices of accessories. Add everything to your cart and see.
In fact, since future orders have a $50 minimum for free shipping, it encourages you to either buy everything you want now, or hold off so you'll have at least $50 in your next order.
I'm tempted to upgrade. I'm still using a 5 and my biggest gripe is I can't stream it over wifi to use as a webcam like you could with the 4 or the 7 and beyond.

That seems to be the best/safest solution.
How did you find out Samsung memory cards were fake? I recently bought Samsung 256gb card few weeks back from Amazon. So just wanted to make sure it is legit
I have a 5 that I barely used because frankly my mtn bike runs are just boring after the first few times lol. I don't have the patience to edit and post process either. The hypersmooth does look pretty neat but again those promo videos are totally edited.
Ooh, I bought Costco's HERO8 bundle[costco.com] a couple weeks ago for $290. A few days later I learned about the HERO9. (This was sort of an impulse buy, not well researched.)
If the HERO9 was $400+ by itself like predicted, it's easier to say no it's not worth the difference. If a similar bundle is $400 including the year of subscription, it's more tempting to return the 8 and upgrade to the 9.
*The Costco bundle includes a case which the HERO9 bundle doesn't, but that's not a dealbreaker.
The front screen is nice, and 20mp photos are a big plus... and "30% more battery life" answers my biggest complaint after a week with the HERO8.t

But does that 30% battery improvement mean that the life of the battery will be shortened? It might not matter with the glut of batteries out there but something to consider.
who cares what you call them or where they come from. the bottom line is everyone knows however you ultimately decided to obtain your cards, once you get them you test them immediately and either they pass to your satisfaction....or they do not.

3. An improved battery life
For generations, GoPro's Hero flagships have sported 1 220mAh batteries. They didn't last long (just over an hour when shooting 4K), but this was largely forgivable due to their compact size. Now, GoPro's bumped up the battery capacity to 1,720mAh on the Hero 9 Black, which it claims boosts its stamina by about 30%.
This results in significantly better performance when capturing Full HD video, with the Hero 9 Black recording for in excess of two hours and 10 minutes in our tests, by comparison to the Hero 8 Black, which died after one hour and 30 minutes.
The bigger battery size also means the Hero 9 Black can handle extreme cold better according to GoPro, so should make for a mightier action camera on the slopes.
On the flip side, we did experience overheating with our Hero 9 when shooting 5K video. After 30 minutes, it powered down and was very hot to the touch, so even if the battery won't hold you back, when shooting at full resolution, the heat might.

That there is enough to not make me upgrade.
