Amazon gave me refunds for the cards even tho one was over a year old and I threw them in the trash.
Next memory cards I buy will be directly from Best Buy via price matching to Amazon.
That seems to be the best/safest solution.
First, if you are already a gopro subscriber, they give you an additional discount on the camera. I am not, so I couldn't see what the discount actually was.
When you check out, they break out the subscription cost (49.99) separately from the bundle cost and ask you to acknowledge it. At first, I was confused and thought they were adding this to the total cost, but when I checked out, it wasn't added. I did have to pay tax, and 2-day shipping was free.

found it loose in the shipping box. Thanks posters for sharing what it looked like. I rechecked the box and found it.
If the HERO9 was $400+ by itself like predicted, it's easier to say no it's not worth the difference. If a similar bundle is $400 including the year of subscription, it's more tempting to return the 8 and upgrade to the 9.
*The Costco bundle includes a case which the HERO9 bundle doesn't, but that's not a dealbreaker.
The front screen is nice, and 20mp photos are a big plus... and "30% more battery life" answers my biggest complaint after a week with the HERO8.
As an FYI, I purchased the 8 bundle and was going to pass on the 9 until further digging. Your comment on how the Costco bundle contains a case vs the 9 bundle is incorrect though.
In effort to reduce their plastic consumption (and packaging cost I imagine) GoPro is shipping all of their 9's in a case. Please see the excerpt below from a cnet review:
" And whether you go with just the camera or the bundle, you a get nice storage case because GoPro is getting rid of its plastic packaging and selling the cameras in the case instead. "

I just put an order in for the 9 black bundle and will confirm when i receive it.

However, as I mentioned earlier:
I saw it in this unboxing video [youtube.com] (at 1:20). The case doesn't have any dividers, and the mesh pocket up top isn't zippered for battery/cards like the one from Costco in the HERO8 bundle was. Oh well.
It looks like this one: replacement hard shell case [gopro.com] where the Costco one was just lke the Casey LITE [gopro.com] ($20). I may get another case at some point, or make do with what I've got.

However, as I mentioned earlier:
Apologies, don't have the patience to read through 24 pages of comments lol. Thanks for the reply.
Battery life is actually averaged across all settings to be ~30% better. This is great, but one of the main reasons I upgraded is because of the actual dimensions changing. To me, this is an indicator of a fundamental platform change. The battery has been the same since the Hero 5 so a move to a different dimensioned battery could mean 'end of life' for this previous platform.
This is an added bonus, but looks a lot better than 2.0.
Check some reviews on Youtube, the 8 did well with this but the 9 absolutely blows it away.
*A caveat with the below video is that the Max Lens mod is being used.

Back to the tried and true ways of being able to remove and replace the lens but with updates.
In previous gens, the locking mechanism was made of a plastic material with many keyed sections. With the 9, it is a metal keyed mechanism that looks much more robust.
This is also great for 3rd party but also solved a serious complaint I've seen about the 8, cracked lenses. With the 8 if you cracked a lens you'd have to send it in to GoPro and be without one for a bit. Now with the 9, just like previously, you can swap out if you have one on hand or purchase one from a local supplier.
I can't speak much on the GoPro subscription that came with it, but I do know that accessories are discounted and there is damage replacement for the camera, which I have no experience with.
I have had my Hero9 for a couple days here are my comments:
Works great as a webcam with the new beta software (with the correct USB C cable)
Horizon leveling works well (just like the GoPro Max)
I actually think the touch screen is better compared to the H8 and like that it's larger.
The larger size IMO feels more premium - I always thought the Hero5-9 was a bit small.
The battery door is better and clicks shut unlike the H8.
Flip down feet/mounts feel sturdier - not as wiggly.
Replicable lens is back!
I use the front screen for battery level etc and find it way more readable compared to the H8.
Looking forward to trying the scheduled recording feature for a sunrise soon.
Hero9 Black (camera only) + Subscription + all accessories from bundle = $391.45
