Also, does this free line meet the "add a line" requirement for phone deals? If yes, do I need to buy the phone at the same time as opening the new line?

yeah if i do move forward will have to make sure they dont switch me to Magenta - the 9-12 One Plan would be it - but not sure if it changes price for all the lines.
If i remember the plan i have now it was tiered. like 2-4 lines one rate, 4-8 like $20 each, and so forth.
also if i recall there is a limit of lines that can have auto pay discount - i just recall how many
