I don't think I want to drop $1000 though. I am comfortable with something around $400 and that's around what I spent on my current card ($490) but over 4 years ago so I am assuming something the same price is much better now.

I would wait for AMDs announcement. If you have to buy now, 5700xt is about the best you will do for 400. I have a sapphire pulse and would recommend. RTX 3070 is worth looking at if you can stretch to 500 and wait until October
I've been patient since 2015 waiting for prices to drop on the newer lower end cards...never seems to happen for one reason or another. Gave up and picked up the MSI RX 5500xt 8GB last week. Almost a year later and it's still selling at msrp... so much for patience.
I know it's low end but at least it doesn't put out as much heat as the RX 570-90 series. I only want to blast storm troopers and play the up coming Squadrons game. Besides, my i7-3770 nor my 1080p monitor could take advantage of anything more powerful. Let alone fit in my HP case. Couldn't be happier and besides any anticipated future savings doesn't outweigh the hours spent gaming now until that mysterious future price decrease. It would probably be pennies per hour extra than if I had waited for a better card. Or not, since a better card would have cost me more. So, i suppose I get to have my cake and eat it too now.
Judging from this week's Nvidia launch or whatever other choice words you'd like to use, the wait will be long for those that want the latest and greatest, but not as long as for those that want prices to drop on existing lower/mid range cards by being patient.
New Xbox or PS5 anyone? That's the ultimate sign of patience. Opting out of this GPU rat race.

If you can afford all those $60 games and monthly online payments... PC is cheaper for me, though consoles feel more future proof because you're not comparing your console to the other players. PC is like a huge ego trip with gaming sometimes, even for single player games.

Agreed, in the long run PC gaming is cheaper espically when playing older titled single player games. Part of my delay in purchasing a new gpu was probably due reading too many online articles about needing the very latest and greatest, future proofing, etc.
I ended buying an Xbox 360 when the Xbox One came out. All the "new" games to me for dirt cheap prices.

The rtx 3070 releases next month and will be equal to/better than a 2080ti for $499. This is one of the biggest generational leaps in performance. The extra money will be very well spent. Get your hands on one... That's a whole different story.

Of course, scalpers will buy up the stock and prices will be twice that because foolish people will be willing to drop the cash for them. I'm very much a PC gamer, but the race for the latest and greatest is not one that I will join in on. I'm still rocking an RX470 and am perfectly content to keep using it until I find I can't run something.
People on here telling others to just wait because prices will go down will be saying the same thing a month from now, because now we should wait for all the old stock to drop to their lowest possible price. If you need a new card and the price to performance ratio on this deal hits your sweet spot, buy the dang card and don't listen to everyone who apparently have infinite patience.
Just fu*# my shit up, fam.
I feel like I'm not impulsive enough to want to go for the console gamer experience. I pirate what I can't afford on PC anyway, and hardly finish games to begin with. It's much worse when you're urged to buy non-refundable $70 digital versions of games you can't even re-sell or trade with friends on console...

And could use, but don't NEED a new gpu.
Are there any really good gpu value deals for a card with shadowlands?
Because as far as I'm concerned it's basically 40$ off the price of the card
Believe they are $70 a game now too.
