When you apply this coupon purchased from socialstack on tello, the sim card will be free of cost (which usually costs $9.99).

I ported my number to Google Voice years ago (one time $20 fee), which lets me take advantage of any deals that come up like this one. GV will forward to up to six phone numbers and as many devices logged into GV or Hangouts as you have - first one to answer gets the call. Your phone has a number you only give to GV to forward calls to (the GV app will make outgoing calls look like they're coming from your GV#).

Think of your GV# like your main office number and the actual number your phone currently has as an extension that can change as needed - calls to the main number can always be forwarded to whatever "extension" you currently are at. When you find a deal on service like this one, you can get a new number or port the existing "extension" number as needed to take advantage of the deal. You just tell the GV app to update the number to forward to as needed (it does most of the work for you).

Doing this means you don't ever have to worry about losing your number if a port goes awry or your el cheapo service provider suddenly goes belly up. If you loose your phone you can still use your GV number from any other device. There are many other benefits, too - visual voice mail transcriptions, calls over data or wifi, archival copies of messages can be sent to your Gmail address, etc., etc.

Alternatively, you can port your number temporarily to Number Barn and then port back in as if you were a new customer. Been a while since I looked into it, but should still only cost a few dollars.
Hope this can be combined with Amex Small Business offer ($5 off $10+ purchase).

https://slickdeals.net/f/14160047-amex-offers-eligible-small-business-spend-10-receive-5-credit-valid-for-select-cardholders

Edit: Confirmed, it works with Amex Small Business Offer. I got email from Amex straight away for the $5 credit. Sweet.

Just remember to add this offer in Amex account (if available) and to pay with Paypal (set Amex as card to use in Paypal) so that tax can be avoided and you pay only $29.40. If you pay directly with any credit card, stacksocial charges tax.
I paid $39 for this 2 months ago and that was a good deal. $29 is probably lowest ever and an incredible deal as long as Sprint service works for you. For now, Tello doesn't use Tmobile towers so don't get this if you know you have bad Sprint service and good Tmobile service - you're gonna regret it!

Also, must start service within 30 days which is pretty quick for most people.

Any micro sim sources for purchase, aside from Tello's $9.99 one?

you can use the SIM that came with the Sprint phone.
you will need to buy the sim if your phone is not Sprint.

When you add the sim card to your order and apply the coupon it becomes free.
But if you need additional sim cards they're selling a BYOD sim kit on Amazon [amazon.com]
It's cheaper than buying on Tello's website right now but prices could change.

At the checkout for me at the actual tello page after you put in the redemption code, I didn't have to pay for a Sim. I don't have a screenshot of it but definitely wasn't charged
