It's a great beginner camera. Buy it, shoot in RAW and play with the photo adjustments on a computer software; you'll be in love what it can do for such a small cam. I believe it does what the a6000 can photo wise but this one has 4K recording.

You looked at the wrong lens kit. With 16-50mm lens, the list price (which is what Amazon sells for) is $998. So, it is only $200 less without warranty.

The autofocus on these is insane. Locks on instantly to any subject in the tracking mode.

A6400 has Sony's real time tracking which isn't included in much more expensive A7III. Grey market in Sony means no warranty, but Sony will still repair it, if you pay them to fix the issue. Nikon doesn't even tough gray market stuff for repairs.

Is it for selling on Etsy? You can get away with using even your phone's camera. Myself and several friends sell on Etsy and I used to use a full on lighting setup with a nice camera before finally switching over to just my phone's camera after seeing a negligible difference between my listing quality vs my friends who just used phone cameras with their product on a bench next to a window. Have good lighting, and play with the photos in a simple photo editor and you'll be off to a good start. Check out some YouTube videos for photo composition to make thumbnails stand out. Good luck!

Imo the kit lens is pretty solid for the right uses. Compact, OSS, useful focal range especially for video. Image quality is decent, biggest drawback is the slow aperture. I actually prefer it to the other 28-70 kit lens usually.

A6400 dumps on the a6000. A6500 is good but I still rank it below the a6400 plus the screen doesn't flip so if you plan on being in front of the camera the a6500 isn't a good option.
