I did that, and made a online/pickup purchase which went nicely. About 2-3 weeks later I'm wondering where my gift card is, and I can't log into the samsclub.com website, it says my membership number is invalid, and the membership credit card charges were completely erased. Almost as if the whole thing never happened.
So I ended up signing up in club yesterday, and got my $45 gift card which I promptly spent on things I needed. I recommend doing it this way because you can make sure that everything goes just right. None of the "we'll reward you later" crap that is easy to mess up and hard to get later.
