Must wait for Synology. Qnap keeps having small sales but Synology never seems to go on sale.

based on the feature set, or more importantly for longer term the hardware and connection options that are far better than Synology's comparable options like the 920+ makes me lean toward this QNAP solution and this recent cost savings is likely going to be push me to make the purchase. I still feel like warranted or not the Synology's are "safer" from the recent malware and other intrusions which gives me pause.

I have a 6 bay version of this NAS and it is amazing! I upgraded memory to 32 GB, have multiple virtual machines and Docker containers running as well as QVR Pro, Qsync, Qvpn and whole bunch of other QNAP apps and the NAS handles everything without any hiccups.

This model comes with 3 years of warranty. I extended it to 5 years using my Citi Costco card that gives 2 extra years.

This may be a really dumb question. I have the Costco Citi card and I thought it only extended the warranty on Costco purchases, not just anything the card was used on.

QNAP seems to have great hardware. I like some of there choices especially 6 bay choices, but they don't have synology hybrid raid or Btrfs those to me are the killer features that make Synology the better choice at this time.

The card adds additional 2 years warranty to the purchase, no matter where you purchased it. I confirmed with Citi CS.
Now you can go ahead and rep me. Smilie

The credit card's terms and conditions don't mention that extended warranty applies to costco purchases only.

https://nascompares.com/2020/06/1...re-review/

The highlights:
-Newer CPU by about 3 years (higher turbo frequency + DDR4 instead of DDR3, so higher peak performance)
-HDMI 2.0 port for 4K60 output
-Dual 2.5Gbe ethernet out of the box

QNAP's software is junk. They have a new vulnerability every month

This deal is amazing, I might have to sell my 453Be and get this for the newer components. You wont find anything to hold a candle to this in terms of specs for the same price with synology. As for malware they all get hit sooner or later with something. Synology got hit last year with a large ransomware attack against it NAS users so they get hit too.

Quote from Sh0nda :
I have this NAS, it keep going offline almost daily ...
I guess Synology would have better reliability
My NAS usually has uptime of 1-2 months at a time. Only time my NAS goes offline is when I tell it to restart to run updates, if you have a NAS going offline daily you have issues. Have you tried to trouble shoot anything or just living with it, cause you could have a bad power outlet, a bad port on your router, internet issues, a bad port on the NAS, bad power supply. If its within warranty its within your best interest to T/S and find out whats causing the issue and warranty it if its defective hardware.
