For those who missed out on last weeks deal and have been waiting on the LTE system to go on sale. Best Buy has the Compustar - 2-Way CSX Remote Start System with LTE (smartphone control) for $289, down from $599, includes installation and t-harness.

Could possibly be the lowest I've seen on SD, I've seen them for $299-$349 when they go on sale.

Just as a reminder: 30 day trial included for DroneMobile and then there is a 5.99 or 11.99 monthly fee for the LTE service. Can also be pre-paid to save a little more as well. You can still use the remote included for free of course if you do not want to continue the mobile service.

Cancelled my order from the other deal and got this one... before i found out about the $6/mo fee for basic $12/mo for GPS (i'm new to this, i should have known using your phone wouldn't be free.) Would be worth noting. Still excited to have a "more expensive" unit for only $20 more. Thanks!!
So here's the deal - a lot of cars require special harnesses and workarounds to either defeat or work alongside factory security features. This is especially true of luxury cars that have many more computer and security subsystems.

In some cases the "Geek Squad Auto" technician at your local Best Buy may have the know how, training, and access to parts to complete the install anyway but Best Buy doesn't have this information stored in its system - it's far easier for them to just say "sorry we can't do it" than to deal with the headache of a bunch of people complaining that the Geek Squad bricked their car or taking Best Buy to small claims court over a $10,000 bill from their local Porsche dealer for fixing a botched remote start job.

If you want to know for sure, call up the Geek Squad Auto tech at whichever Best Buy and speak to them. If you think they sound trustworthy and knowledgeable enough to work on your car and cut into your electrical system then sure do it.

I will say that I have been having issues with my Compustar remote start system with Drone Mobile that was installed into my 2017 WRX about 2-3 years ago by which I mean it no longer works period. The guy who did the work was experienced and knew his stuff, but there may have been some other factor that caused issues - i.e. my car had battery issues where the dealer had to replace the battery, don't know if that perhaps shorted something. Someone also busted up my front end and so the car had to go to a body shop - they were also reputable and did an excellent job, but who knows if they missed something that would've eventually caused problems with my drone mobile system? The caveat is that the remote start still works, I just can't it through the app - so is it a bug on Drone Mobile's side??

Any time there's aftermarket work done on the electrical system I'd say you have to be prepared for potential gremlins that can cause problems later on.
I would say no, it's not better to wait. With this deal, you get all the functionality of the other unit PLUS the LTE Drone service (if you want to use it).

It will work just like the other unit with the added benefit that, if you change your mind in the future about using the Drone service, you can simply start a subscription.

I will say that there have been times when I'm in a building and don't get anywhere close to the 3000ft range this is advertised as. Having the Drone app makes it easy to ensure that I can start my car in those types of situations.

You're right, I updated to include the two pricing plans just in case. I just automatically assumed folks knew it wasn't a free service from the previous deals but it's always good to mention it. Thanks for the reminder!

If you're not going to sign up for the monthly LTE plan, is it better to wait for the non-LTE kit to go on sale for $250 again?

Such as this deal: https://slickdeals.net/f/14275187-compustar-2-way-remote-start-system-installation-required-250?v=1&src=SiteSearch

None of my stores offer installation. 200 miles away is closest and I don't have time for that.

Just keep that in mind if you don't live in a major Metro area.

Thank you. I was waiting on this particular one and right on time.

If you were on the fence then I wouldn't wait anymore. Its winter time and the free installation appointment slots will be gone especially near Christmas. I remember trying to get one last year near the same time and the only available slot was in February.
Plus this deal is slightly more expensive than the standard 2-way remote system deals with the added benefit for the LTE functionality.

Is the LTE module packaged separately for this SKU?

I have a car that has the Compustar installed and would like to add the LTE module to it and then install the main module in another car without LTE.

Yes. The Drone module is a separate piece from the DC3 remote start brain.

Keep in mind that Best Buy isn't going to do the two separate vehicle installs for the one included price. But you could probably handle the Drone install yourself.

Can you purchase LTE service separately with another company? As in, insert in a SIM card and have it work?
