Is the car fit guide on bestbuy website accurate? Both of my vehicles (BMW 2013 X3 and MB 2017 GLE350) show up as not fit. Are German cars not compatible with this model?

Cancelled my order from the other deal and got this one... before i found out about the $6/mo fee for basic $12/mo for GPS (i'm new to this, i should have known using your phone wouldn't be free.) Would be worth noting. Still excited to have a "more expensive" unit for only $20 more. Thanks!!
You don't have to activate it..

So here's the deal - a lot of cars require special harnesses and workarounds to either defeat or work alongside factory security features. This is especially true of luxury cars that have many more computer and security subsystems.

In some cases the "Geek Squad Auto" technician at your local Best Buy may have the know how, training, and access to parts to complete the install anyway but Best Buy doesn't have this information stored in its system - it's far easier for them to just say "sorry we can't do it" than to deal with the headache of a bunch of people complaining that the Geek Squad bricked their car or taking Best Buy to small claims court over a $10,000 bill from their local Porsche dealer for fixing a botched remote start job.

If you want to know for sure, call up the Geek Squad Auto tech at whichever Best Buy and speak to them. If you think they sound trustworthy and knowledgeable enough to work on your car and cut into your electrical system then sure do it.

I will say that I have been having issues with my Compustar remote start system with Drone Mobile that was installed into my 2017 WRX about 2-3 years ago by which I mean it no longer works period. The guy who did the work was experienced and knew his stuff, but there may have been some other factor that caused issues - i.e. my car had battery issues where the dealer had to replace the battery, don't know if that perhaps shorted something. Someone also busted up my front end and so the car had to go to a body shop - they were also reputable and did an excellent job, but who knows if they missed something that would've eventually caused problems with my drone mobile system? The caveat is that the remote start still works, I just can't it through the app - so is it a bug on Drone Mobile's side??

Any time there's aftermarket work done on the electrical system I'd say you have to be prepared for potential gremlins that can cause problems later on.

My apologies, I should have been more specific. The the website wants to charge me $149.99 for installation and t-harness on top of the remote starter. So the total for checkout shows up as $489.
Oh I see. Apology I thought you meant the total was $149.99.
I am not sure why it is not showing as free in your case.

Correct, but stupid me was really excited about using my phone to remote start. Lol like I said, I'm a dummy, I should've known it wasn't going to be for nothing. 😂😂😂 It's all good, I'll pay the 5-year deal and never think of it again.

If you're not going to sign up for the monthly LTE plan, is it better to wait for the non-LTE kit to go on sale for $250 again?

Such as this deal: https://slickdeals.net/f/14275187-compustar-2-way-remote-start-system-installation-required-250?v=1&...
And this comes with only One remote..right?

Very odd. I had the same happen (install fee with T harness) in my case 149.99. That was logged into the app! I went through safari on my mobile. Added item to my cart, then it quoted me install with T harness 12.99! Added to cart. At checkout my remote start said install included, along with all other necessary (?) parts. No mention of the 12.99 install? Total cost was harness and tax. No install charge. Try other browsers. Clear cookies? May help.

For the LTE service. You can still access some functions through the app without the service correct. Remote start and keyless entry at least? I thought it was the more advanced features that required a subscription.

I added one of these to my car with the app module. Simple installation. Plug and play. No hacking wires. https://www.12volt.solutions

They can program it to work w/ existing fob but the Compustar one likely reaches much much further. My OEM one is 100ft on a good day vs. blocks w/ Compustar. I would have them set it to lock-unlock-lock so it is harder to hit by accident and will leave vehicle in a locked state.
I definitely agree on the lock-unlock-lock for OEM, they programmed my OEM as lock-lock-lock and there have been so many times I accidently start my car by hitting lock on the OEM keypad one to many times. It's to the point where I now use the compustar for lock and unluck all the time instead of the OEM (plus the compustar gets much much better range).
