Released in 2017. I would go with something more recent.

Probably worth waiting for prime day to see what deals there are on mesh systems

The M9's sell at Costco regularly for $199. Even though they are better, they still aren't meeting my needs and I think I'm sending them back.

Any thoughts on the brand meshforce on Amazon? I have a set but debating if will notice mich difference getting this or Google or aeero.
Never used or seen anything on review sites for meshforce so I cant recommend, complete gamble. If you want to save money and still get a decent product you can always get a urlhasbeenblocked Nova MW6 when on sale I seen the 3pack as low as around $100ish. Now unfortunately they are not on sale so depends how much of a hurry you are.

I have setup the urlhasbeenblocked at s few locations and people overall are generally happy with them, people who just want wifi to work but dont care about getting blazing speeds. Even though at a couple locations they do have a few computer gamers and I have their PC;s hardwired into the cubes for best latency, and they are happy with it too. So if you want my cheapest recommendation urlhasbeenblocked Nova MW6 they are even better than the original google wifi if you want something to compare performance to thats name brand.

I heard tri-band is the way to go as there are slower speeds or handling with dual-band. I believe this is a dual-band.

All depends if you actually have the ISP speeds to make it worth while. If your not getting speeds over 300Mbps Triband in most cases is a waste for you if your primarily accessing internet content and not doing anything in network. Also the other reason the tribands are better is for people that can only do pure wireless setups, cause that triband actually does all the work with communication and moving of traffic between the nodes.

Also almost all dual bands can be connected to each other with a hardwire cable, that backhaul connection pretty much puts even these M5's a lot closer to M9 speeds even though they are tri band.

Thats a tall order you have there. Man WRT54GL, lol that was a grand daddy, one of the first few solid wireless G routers after the standard came out, some say best G router ever. It was launched almost 15 years ago now so a little older than your 10 year time estimate, time flys, lol.

What kind of ISP speeds do you have and if you want I can give you some suggestions, I already have an idea just making sure they fit your ISP speeds?
Allegedly 200/200 but it's really more like 50/20. Thanks Spectrum! We don't have any 4K TVs yet but may in the somewhat near term.

I don't even game any more. Really just need reliable WiFi that doesn't drop as I move around and a decent speed Smilie

After how unreliable my M9's were with constant dropped/glitchy connections (even when router was in the same room), and a total inability to get support from TPLink, I'm done with them.

Fun fact: the Deco app will always say your firmware is up to date no matter how many versions behind you are; the ability to update firmware thru the app is broken and has been for over a year.
Yeah I found out today that the m9s have to be updated through their utility tool. By updating it, it brings the features that the m5 I just bought have. I'm loving the m9s though.

I also just bought this 3pk of m5's on Friday and now its $20.00 cheaper. Dang it.

I read some reviews on a Mesh Force mesh system that was offered on Amazon and a bunch of the one-star reviews indicated a lot of data is sent to or through China.

TBS it would be foolish to buy a system that doesn't now (or with an update) support WiFi 6. Most of us keep a wireless setup for years. Good buy if you need something today.

As others have mentioned (but gotten downvoted without replies why?), I too have the M9 set from Costco, and they've been fantastic. Covered 5000 sqft + garage and backyard with ease

Be aware, to disable mixed WPA/WPA2 TKIP/AES you have to install beta firmware. Otherwise, you will get security warning from iOS 14 and Windows 10.

Also, these like to pick 2.4GHz channels like 9 which is typically not recommended. There are feature requests to allow manual setting of channels.

If you dont need to buy right now, the m9 with 3 units drops to $150 every once in while at costco. Ive had it for about a year, and it hasbheen the most stable system i've had.

get an orbi, don't look back. Just switched from a ubiquiti unifi setup - which was great, but needed more coverage in a new house and wanted wifi6.

Eero seems to be unstable for me so I'm looking into these. Super fast any where I go in the house but I get disconnected and have issues with zoom and WebEx calls.

  • I dont know what the title or description is but order still says "TP-Link Deco X20 WiFi 6 Mesh WiFi, AX1800 Whole Home WiFi System, Covers up to 5800 Sq. Ft. , Next-Gen Wi-Fi 6, Replaces Routers and WiFi Extenders, Parental Control, Works with Alexa(3-Pack) " . So even if I get m5 amazon should still replace it with ax20. Great deal.

The M5's for your speed will do fine, but the challenge is I dont know how much distance you will need between each unit and if you will be able to hardware any of them, outside of the one which can use your POE adapter. If your able to hardwire them, get this 3 pack and then just buy a M5 single pack as your 4th for the garage area if the 3 are not enough. These systems allow you to add on, you can even mix and match newer and older models M4/M9+/X20/X60. If you decide to mix and match the more powerful unit has to be attached to the modem.

If you dont plan on hard wiring them, I would go with the 3pack of m9+ instead next time they are on sale for $200, I believe the 3 pack with the triband might be enough to cover your whole home/garage if you can center the main one in your home with your modem. If the 3 pack is not enough to cover the whole home/garage can always add in a 4th unit M4 or M9 to fill in whatever gap is missing.

As for your slower speeds, if you testing the speeds from your a device connected to your Linksys router using the POE thats probably why, the POE adapters are great for getting a single somewhere, but they are no where near advertised speeds. Even the best ones out there you need a near perfect environment to get over speeds of 100 Mbps.

I have a hard time recommending a 3 pack just to add on a 4th cause cost brings the total system almost to sale prices on the X60 in some situations. If you have the money and if costco has the X60 3pack for $250 still, that would be the next step up for you. Since this is a wifi 6 system it would be a bit more future proof, but its still missing the triband so only recommend this one if you can hardwire the units with ethernet.

The security warnings only show up in iOS 14, windows 10 does not care what security you use on your wifi.

As for these units perfering 2.4ghz it all depends how far away the device is from the node. Since 5ghz is way shorter range, if its usually not in the same room, it will always try to move devices outside of immediate vicinity to 2.4ghz cause it has way longer range.
