So, if you try to redeem it on an alternate email or something, and if you get charged full price for it being noticed you've been in the system before, then no refund.

We alternate every year between my SO and myself. We do the same for FiOS...
Also, since they keep the "old" account emails in the system, we just use the Gmail "plus" trick... [email protected].

True. I did that a few weeks ago. I did not use the same email address but of course I have the same street address and phone number. That didn't stop me from getting the $45 gift card though and the membership cost me $45.
