As my friendly personal assistant tells me, att phone bought off without activating is eligible for unlocking right away unless it's prepaid which requires 6 months of service before unlocking.

I wouldn't count on this phone working with an MVNO like Cricket. The only way to be sure is to check the IMEI number with them, which in this case isn't possible.

Bought one, still using a Pixel 6a that had a new battery installed recently. Works great, but the 128GB HD fills up way too fast. Crossing fingers battery health is near 100%. Thanks OP.

These are overstock open box units AT&T couldn't sell. They sell them to these 3rd party resellers for cheap with the condition that they can never be unlocked. It's the reason they are so cheap. It's why the MVNOs give out "free" phones when port into them...they can't be unlocked without a year of service. These can't be unlocked period.

I bought a phone locked to at&t from ebay and used it on rdpocket AT&T for a year and got it unlocked on the AT&T unlock web site after moving the redpocket service to a different AT&T locked phone from ebay. AT&T would have unlocked the second phone if I paid off the $180 balance.
