Update 12/15: Existing users of the free plan are now grandfathered into the free plan for the life of the printer!

"We previously notified you that the plan for your OfficeJet 3830 would be changing, but as a valued customer, you can now continue printing up to 15 pages/month at no charge for the life of your printer1.

We understand that printing at home is essential in today's world, and hope that your HP Instant Ink plan will continue to make life a little easier for you.

Your current plan includes:
Up to 15 pages/month at no charge
Each additional set of 10 pages costs $1
Unused free pages do not roll over

No action is needed to continue with your current plan. If your needs change, you have the option to upgrade2 to any of the plans shown below by logging into your account at hpinstantink.com/signin and clicking Change Plan."

Received a similar email today. Seems like HP is discontinuing their free tier of Instant Ink subscription starting beginning of December.

It was a good deal while it lasted.

It also seems like new plans pricing is adjusted for your particular printer model - my cheapest plan will be $0.99/month compared to $1.25 on screenshot above. I have Envy 4520 printer.

Just got my email today. I print on avg less than 5 pages/month so there's no way I need to pay for this up. I have paid them for overflow twice before they added rollover.

We need to petition for a flat rate 15 pages plan because in the long run that'll be better for me. It'll be more like kinkos where I print at 7c/page.

I've been using less than 15 pages per month, so I bought the HP printer to take advantage of the free ink plan. But I received a email from HP stating they are changing the plans. Basically the free plan will be over effective from Dec 05, 2020. And the free plan will be switched over to the $0.99 per month plan automatically. I haven't seen anybody talking about it online, so I'll just post the email for your information.

We appreciate you choosing Instant Ink service for your DeskJet 2655. We want to keep delivering the savings and convenience you expect for years to come, so today we are sharing details of upcoming changes to your printing plan.
You'll find more plan options, plus the ability to roll over unused pages—up to TRIPLE your plan amount.
Plus, you can now be rewarded for referring friends to Instant Ink—find out more below.

So what happens if you cancel but still in the middle of using their ink?

Also whats to stop you from subscribing and then canceling every few months?

I am confused. So can you cancel the plan and still use the printer as a regular printer then just buy ink when you have to.

The way I understand is you cannot use the ink provided through the plan once the Instant Ink plan is cancelled, but you should be fine using your own ink.
