I really hope this is not true. Most of our phones won't ship for another few weeks. How the heck will they keep track of who was eligible for the $800 trade vs $700. What a clusterf*

Did they ask for the IMEI of your trade phone?
Was about to order earlier for the $800 but I really wanted the Pro Max so I backed out. One thing I think they will base it on is at the "Retail Purchase Agreement" you sign/digitally signed when you purchase the phone. It has the date there.

True story, I traded an iPhone 7 in for an iPhone XS and qualified for the $600 rebate they were offering on trade in store. Several months later when I call because I am not getting my bill credits, they said when the phone was received at the trade in department it had a cracked screen and didn't qualify. This was a corporate AT&T store.
Thank you! I read through the forum above and I decided not to trade in my phone. Att is running a scam here. There are hundreds of complaints for undervalued phones going on. It's truly discouraging.

Just preordered the 12 Pro Max. I've been digging around comments and couldn't find the answer and not clear on AT&T, but do I need to go to their trade-in site [att.com] now to enter in my information for the trade-in or do I do that after I activate my phone?

Do it after, but also trade in at an AT&T retail store. Dont trust the 3rd party to rate your phone.

ok so i talked to my brother (he works at at&t coporate level)

he said that, because i did the upgrade on my line online with the promotion, this transaction is meant for me to send my *trade in* phone through the mail to their processing center.

but i have decided to not send the phone myself but going to the store instead to trade in my phone.

so my brother said, the clerk in store just continue the online transaction and sending in your "trade in" phone in your behalf.

on the $0 on my print out means, they didn't charge me for sending it in on my behalf. so the print out is just a transaction between them taking the phone from me to send it it. and all the details is in their system.

this is why our print out is different, from those that did the line "upgrade" and "trade in" in store. and that theirs show everything very clearly.

so im guessing you did it like me....upgraded online, and walked in the trade in phone? yes correct?

hope this helps other and put some minds at ease.
I did upgrade through Apple. Didn't tell ATT I was going to trade in(didn't initiate anything online first) just brought it into a corporate store. But makes sense.

Did realize I do have a picture similar to metaldood's. But it wasn't a print out. When I expressed concern about the $0, the woman helping me said I can't print anything out, but here, I'll show you my screen (on her tablet) and that showed $245 trade in value, then -$245 for the offer, for a net $0. Forgot I snapped a picture of that. Wonder if some stores found a way to print that screen out for customers.

Bill credits suck, plus you can't unlock for 30 months.
So we can't unlock these phones for 30 months? What happens if we pay off the remaining installments in one shot.

For example,

If I get iPhone 12 Pro - $999
Trade In a phone for $xyz
If remaining is $999-$xyz is paid off immediately, can we unlock the phone as soon as we get it?

You can pay it off. But you've just paid $1000 plus a trade in on a phone. You won't get the bill credits starting until 2-3 billing cycles after.

I believe you have to pay the phone off. If you do. You lose your credits.

yea i did the upgrade from at&t online. and included the promotion in the order.

so, it kinda sucks that our print out didnt print out the details. because who knows if the person processed it for the promotion or just a straight trade in for money (and the money goes towards your bill)

Just called AT&T loyalty and I guess no deals for iPhone 12 discounts for those who wish to remain with the mobile share plans. Changing to the unlimited will raise my monthly plan cost by $40-$50 including taxes and fees. Guess I will wait.

wait for what? AT&T seems pretty all in on the 'You only get discounts for long lock-ins on more expensive plans" strategy these days.

I just said screw it and ordered an unlocked 12pro max from apple this morning instead, used a card to get 5.25% cash back and will keep my cheap plan with no carrier lock or credits to keep track of.
