The 30 months service is s given, so not sure why i should factor it in
It specifically says:
"To receive Recurring Device Credits (RDC), you must purchase your device on EIP and meet any other requirements of the promotion.
You may have one Recurring Device Credits (RDC) promo per line at a time. To get a new Recurring Device Credits (RDC) promo and keep your current credit, you must pay off the existing EIP first.
If you pay off your EIP early, you'll continue to receive the promised Recurring Device Credits (RDC) as an account-level credit through the remaining months of the promotional credit period (up to 24 or 36 months)."
The key here is "To get a new RDC promo and keep your current credit..."
So there is documentation to back up that this should work. I know in practice, it may not automatically work, but there is a specific document which says this should work.
Just be sure to read the loyalty requirements carefully.
From the Wiki:
$200 Additional Rebate for 5+ Years T-Mobile Customers:
Starting October 16, 2020, if you're an eligible customer on an account established as of November 30, 2015 with an eligible device active on our network between August 2, 2020 - October 2, 2020, you can get $200 back (after rebate via virtual prepaid card for T-Mobile customers; via 30 monthly bill credits for Sprint customers) when you pre-order or purchase a new eligible Apple iPhone and trade in / turn-in an eligible iPhone.
I wasn't planning on leaving, but what happens if I want to upgrade to a different phone after 20 months? I can pay off this phone and purchase a new one somewhere else and still add it to the line while continuing to get the other 10 months of credit from current trade in with this offer?
I wonder how much of a headache it would be to cancel everything and go through Apple.
Plus now you can use their own documentation against them since it literally says how to "To get a new Recurring Device Credits (RDC) promo and keep your current credit"

In my case, i signed up for a "free" upgrade from my old simple choice plan from 2gb to 6gb per line, without reading the fine print. When i went to add lines later, they told me it was $20 per line.
Not saying you did that, but check the fine print every time something changes. The fact that they don't offer those plans anymore that they used to stick in customers means they try and trick you into upgrading
could've traded for iphone 12 for $215 credit + $200 loyalty

After 10 years left att and cut my phone bill in half with more features and phone lines.
30 months isn't an issue for me.

1. Pre-order 3 iPhone 12s
2. Trade-in 2 iPhone 8 plus (+$415 each) and 1 iPhone 6s (+$215)
3. Submit Loyalty Rebate (+$200 x 3)
Net cost will be $799x3 plus tax minus $415, $415, $215, $200, $200, $200. The trade-in will be factored in over 30 months. Is this about right?
