Gotcha. Model S has a newer battery shape than model 3. There's no technological improvement but just the shape and probably energy density is higher with the new design.
You'll lose anywhere from 5 -10% every year depending on how you use it from careful to careless. careful meaning you're not supposed to charge more than 90% unless you're going out on a road trip (think once a month). you're not supposed to deplete battery less than 10% (lot of people suggest 20%) and finally supercharging often increases battery wear and tear as well.
my 18 month old model 3 was initially rated at 325. now I get 308ish on a full charge.

Too many model 3s on the road. You're better of paying 2k extra for the Y. Probably will fetch more in resale too.
The Y is actually going to be a higher volume seller compared to the 3. Wait 2 years and you will see more Ys.
