also, this is a repost.
complete with the same silly Lucid Air comment
the reason i brought up lucid was just to say that healthy competition is good for the consumer...it could be any competing company in the EV space idc

Why buy a walled garden? You really don't own your Tesla.

Gotcha. Model S has a newer battery shape than model 3. There's no technological improvement but just the shape and probably energy density is higher with the new design.

You'll lose anywhere from 5 -10% every year depending on how you use it from careful to careless. careful meaning you're not supposed to charge more than 90% unless you're going out on a road trip (think once a month). you're not supposed to deplete battery less than 10% (lot of people suggest 20%) and finally supercharging often increases battery wear and tear as well.

my 18 month old model 3 was initially rated at 325. now I get 308ish on a full charge.

Not true.

That number may hold for the first year, but analysis over the long haul shows about 2% per year.

Pulling up one of those apps (TezLab IIRC) is showing something like 7.5% for a 2015 with a 90kW battery, range reduced 240/270 after 65,000 miles.

So you have to look at range (if you ever got that much) and the inefficiency of the battery (increased kW per mile cost) in determining how to measure efficiency.

I haven't plugged in an OBD scanner, but you can measure things like SOC (state of Charge) and individual cell voltage as well as how well the BMS is working.

Is this a good deal? I think so, because of the free and unlimited supercharger support versus the M3. But it comes down to how often you take a long trip, your kW/h cost (CA at $0.25 makes more economic sense), and annual miles driven.

Plaid, the newest version is where the P100D with ludicrous was 5 years back, so things are always moving forward as well (consider it won't be available until Q4 2021) so expect further discounts or more features at the same price point.

Its kind of like an HOA... Some people find solace in having a continuity of experience... Just hope that the curator knows your needs and wants well.

But I am in the other camp, and bought another brand of long range EV for this exact reason. I need the ability to get repairs done at my own shops.

Fwiw owned a model S for about a year, traded down (up) to a 3, night and day better in driving dynamics, comfort, visibility, fun. Highly recommend the 3 in either AWD trim

I have a 3 with everything and best car hands down. The interior lacks as far as refinement for a 60k car with everything but tech wise and features with no gas - hands down best car I have owed. Doesn't make sense to trade it in for a Y but I would pick a Y over a model 3 at this point. If the model S and X have a luxury refinement upgrade on the interior, I would go with an X.

Tesla Model S is great at this price point. However, here are a few things one should consider:

1. If Biden does become the next president, there may be incentives to buy electric cars and so there may be rebate again on Tesla. 2. The battery technology is improving rapidly, So the next generation of batteries will be cheaper, lighter, and with better KWh capacity. 3. The Model S is due for an upgrade in looks.

Therefore, it makes a lot of sense to LEASE a Model S for 3 years than to purchase it outright.

Lucid is not cheap and we don't know about its limitations or issues. Also, TESLA has the best charging network and they have taken the range anxiety off.

This might be because Lucid has announced Lucid Air at $69990 with 406 mile range.
Edit: Just checked the Lucid website, $69990 price includes $7500 Federal rebate.

And the fisker ocean moved up their launch date

Do we think they will drop the price of the X anytime soon? I'm close to ordering one.
