im looking for a sub where you can FEEL the bass. am i only going to achieve that with the $700+ subs like the monoprice monolith?

or is there a sub that can give me somewhat of that experience in the $200-300 range?

You can "feel" bass on almost any subwoofer system, but it wont always sounds good~ Obv if your spending more money on a nicer subwoofer the sub bass frequencies will be well separated from the rest of the audio and everything will sound tight and controlled. Cheaper subs can make anything rumble, but it will get involved with the rest of the audio and then you have "muddiness" i suppose. I have a $300 subwoofer the Emotiva S8, its the only closed sub at its size and price, and it has the ability to produce ground shaking bass, but I dont need it for that, and its not really great at it when its pushed that hard. I just need it to be there to input the lower frequency range into the audio so everything sounds nice and natural. Most ported subs will give a more dramatic effect, but im content with a closed sub.

Are you talking chest thumping bass like you would feel at a concert or rumbling bass you would feel after an explosion in a movie? It's much easier to get the chest thumping bass from a cheap subwoofer. For rumbling subsonic bass a $300 sub or a couple Dayton SUB-1200s will get you more of that than this will, but if that's your focus I'd still recommend just spending more than $500 on a single better subwoofer like the HSU VTF-2 MK5

I personally cannot recommend this or the 12-in version as the last time I bought two of the 12-in versions I experienced tremendous Port noise. I got a second one because I thought the first might have been defective but they both had the same issue. This 10-in version will likely experience the same issue as it is just a smaller version of the 12-in. Can anyone chime in who owns this and confirm?
at the time I opted for the sw-112 instead and have been very happy. for the guy above asking about feeling the bass, the sw112 definitely accomplishes that for me but that will depend on your installation room size placement etc

I own the 12sw and have no issue with port noise, even if pushed hard. My home theater is in a small-ish room and I've been pretty impressed with the sub thus far, especially for its price ($179 at Costco last year). I get it won't be as tight and hit as low of a frequency as an SVS etc but I don't see myself needing to upgrade the sub for a few years, if at all. I run an RP440c and two RP150m's up front, and r141m as the rear surrounds.

I've read great things about sw-112, glad you're enjoying it.

I wasn't sure if it was just me which is why I had bought a second one to compare. They were from different stores so I doubt they were from the same batch. One I got from Fry's and the one to compare was from Best buy this is about 5 years ago I think this model was fairly new back then. I tried everything even acoustic foam in the port LOL.
