I think there are better deals to be had on external drives. Last year during the post Christmas sales I got a WD 5TB drive for $59.99 from Best Buy. I would hold out for BF or then to pick up a drive.
If you choose store pick up MAKE SURE THE BOX IS SEALED. Before accepting it. A lot of people stealing the drives and putting smaller ones in then returning them.
What do you expect from a portable USB powered hard drive?

Is that circle offer a one time use? If so... depending on when it expires, and whether you plan on maybe buying a bigger purchase, it might be better to use it on something like a TV. For example... Earlier this week, during prime day, someone got a $200 tv from Target for about $180 due to that coupon. Only mattyer if you would use it though obviously...

Thanks..I was waiting for the hundreds of comments attesting to the greatness or garbage-ness of this before I got it....but I guess there's too much stuff getting posted for the usual attention lol

I'm looking for a good drive for cold storage. I already have a synology set up and running.

Recommended to go external SSD, or a drive that spins, like this ?

A drive that I just back up all my data for long term storage. Not really being read/write too often. Main backup would be to my synology NAS and then just a duplicate on another drive (ssd or hdd)

Thats an interesting question. To use ssd you're going to need plenty of gold for your cold - they run around $100 per tb, versus 10 fir mechanical.
