How does the trade-in credit work?

Apple trade-in credit

1) Going directly with T-mobile, using the iPhone 8 as a trade in will net you $415 off instead of Apple $140 + $150 Rebate Card. $415 vs $290. No brainer. Granted the Tmo deal is bill credits, but if your staying with Tmobile, who cares.
2) If you don't want Bill credits, BE PATIENT. Costco will have an offer soon if they don't have one already that will usually mirror T-Mobiles direct offer except with a prepaid card instead. Will beat Apple's crappy offer.

The other option would be if you pickup the iphone 12 from apple store. You can get a T-Mobile sim free at Apple store.

I brought in my iPhone 8 Plus for a $210 instant trade-in credit at the Apple Store yesterday and already applied for the additional $150 virtual rebate through T-Mobile. My total will come out to $439 with the $30 instant carrier discount. I was surprised the iPhone 8 Plus was valued at $210 while the iPhone 8 is only at $140 and iPhone XR at $250.
I went to T-Mobile and they quoted $415 with the same trade-in over 30 months of bill credits.
