First responders generally get discounts similar to the military elsewhere already. AAFES isn't a charity though; it's a nationalized supply chain to get goods to military locations. The online store is only an extension of that. As of very recently, they sell to non-pensioned veterans now too because I guess it logically is only one step removed from their primary mission. But the main point of the AAFES store is to keep military members sane no matter what dumpster town they are assigned in.
For folks that pay sales tax (like me in CA), this is a great deal. Even accounting for that $25 gift card, the XM4 came out to $273 before tax. After tax, I paid $294.16. so considering these are $249 AND no tax, I would say a savings of $45 is substantial. Wouldn't you?
It's not. AAFES is self-funded (in simple terms. Money actually both goes in and comes out.) That store is generally a rip off and wouldn't survive without the tax status.

That's nuts. I didn't think it would hit this price until next year. Definitely better than the Prime Day deals. Thanks OP!

This is a great deal. I've been waiting for these to go on sale. I love my lower end Sony XB950s and have been wanting to upgrade.

The prime day deal was $298 (including a $25 or $30 gift card).
I thought that military website always give you a better than normal discount, why is this a deal or surprise?

Ugh...I got the XM3 last year for $179 when AAFES had a sale. What y'all think, worth getting the XM4? I just use it for gym.
Not sure about the XM4, but I don't think the XM3 are advisable for the gym? The padding material makes you real warm real fast, not the best idea for working out imo.

the xm3 is still selling strong at 200, was hoping that the sale of xm4 would drop the xm3 to 150

The AAFES website and myNavyExchange website don't have big automatic military discounts; a lot of the more popular items, especially electronics, sell for retail price, with the added benefits that they deliver to deployed military personnel and offer no sales tax for eligible shoppers. Sometimes, they do offer significant discounts...I was able to get the Sony x900h 65" TV for $850 a few weeks ago, which goes for $1000-1200 plus tax at most retailers. But for those eligible, sale price PLUS no tax usually makes for a slick deal.

it's all about what you need, if you don't have any issue with xm3 then keep it. if you use the microphone a lot and not happy with the xm3, then xm4 may be a good idea for upgrade.

FWIW, my XM3 broke earlier this month, I bought the XM4s from the Amazon Prime Day deal with the $25 GC. To be honest, I can't really tell the difference.

They said the XM4's noise-cancelling is slightly better. I think if you are interested in simultaneously pairing the headphone to two devices (like the Bose QC35s) then it maybe worthwhile upgrade since the XM4s allow two devices to be connected.

IMO, if you are happy with the XM3s, you would not notice meaningful difference with the XM4s. I say save your money.
