Hope it will be below $1500 on black Friday and/or in the holiday season.

A lot of times it's the entry level models that get discounted on Black Friday. I guess we'll see.

God these comments are toxic. This is comparable in price to the a7 III, which, considering that the a7c is basically an a7 III in a smaller rangefinder style body, is fine. It's not a money grab by Sony, it's them filling out a portion of their camera catalog for a different demographic. It's not really meant for people that have existing fullsize fullframe bodies. It's meant for people who fit the demographic for the smaller profile and weight, like street shooters, vloggers, travel, etc. It's a niche that doesn't have too many competitors, so its nice that theres another option out there (the only other entrants are the various APS-C cameras, high end point and shoots, and Leicas)

The benefits are the lower profile and weight; it's geared towards travel and street photography. As for the lens choices, yeah, it's nice to have the option to put larger lenses on it, but they also released a solid compact zoom for it.

The EVF and other concessions made to make the camera smaller are fine, even the single SD slot; most people don't truly need a second SD card slot, its just great for peace of mind. But this is a fullframe camera in an APS-C sized body; its not the worst concession to make. Plus it has the same great sensor from the a7 III and an updated processor and better motion tracking (though the a7 iii already had great motion tracking). Those are the two main metrics where it beats Fuji, as well as a larger lens ecosystem. Fuji lowlight performance and dynamic range are good but not on par with the a7c/a7 iii. Fuji does have more jpeg options and better menus/build quality. Either is a great option, just pick w.e one you feel is more attractive to you.

Even with the a7 IV likely coming out within a year, this is still a good buy. It's not like the a7 IV coming out instantly invalidates the fact that this is a good camera and will still take good photos; I'm still using it and will likely be using it till the a7r V. The a7r III has been out for years and is still taking great photos. The main benefit of waiting for the next gen is for the updated processor and menus from the a7s Iii.

TL;DR If your use case fits the a7c, you'll be fine. It takes great photos.

Your welcome....those 2 years were my worst ever at 71. I got out in June 1970 and 50 years later I still don't believe my country did that to me (drafted.)

Is it absolutely necessary? No. Will your SD card fail? Probably not, but when I go overseas on vacation it cost at least maybe $3,000 for the trip, so how much is is worth now and how important are two cards if say all your photos and video from your trip are wiped out?
Having 2 slots will save you from a card failure, but that's a fairly unlikely problem to begin with. For a professional wedding photographer, sure, it makes sense to guard against that risk by having 2 cards in the camera. For a hobbyist on vacation, the primary risk is losing your camera, or having it stolen, with the memory cards still in them. The 2nd slot won't save you there. If you really value your photo, don't worry about a 2nd slot, and invest in a way to back up your photos during your trip. A cable to connect your camera to your phone/tablet may be all you need.

I clearly explained that if you spent a lot of money on a vacation and lost your photos and video it's just as bad as if you are a professional shooting a wedding or whatever. Your risk of having stuff stolen is just as great when you are at home versus when you are on vacation too. It's important for a professional photographer to have a second card slot because the photos and videos are important to the client, there's no difference if I am the one holding the camera, the stuff is still important to me. If I fly thousands of miles to somewhere and spend thousands of dollars to do so you don't think the photos and videos I take aren't important to me? Regardless it's priced like a 2 card camera, it should have two cards.

I said if your vacation photos are that valuable, there are more important things to do than insist on a 2nd slot. Namely a portable backup solution. If you pay big bucks for a camera with 2 slots, but leave all your vacation photos in those 2 slots, you're an idiot. You should be backing up your photo every day (at the very least) onto something else, so even if you lose your camera, you don't lose all your photos.

I think you're missing the point here. What he's concerned about isn't losing the card itself, it is the possibility of the card going bad or corrupting. This can happen at any time. You're suggestion of an external back isn't wrong, it just doesn't solve the problem of a corrupt card.

I know they are two different failure modes. But a portable backup solution will mitigate the effects of a corrupt card. If you back up your photos every night, you can't lose more than a day's worth of photos to a corrupt card. Whereas if you don't have a portable backup solution, you may lose ALL your vacation photos when someone steals your camera or drop it in the water. A 2nd slot won't save you there.

Aren't the specs so close to an A7iii? If you own an A7iii is it worth getting this one?

Its essentially a semi-mini A7III. With some updated features. I wouldn't say its worth it at all. I think Sony may have segmented up the market too much with this camera.

I'm beginning to sense a little bit of jealousy and self gratification through dismissing other deals to boost ones ego plus self consolation. Am I correct?

Wrong. I drive an automatic car (as does 97.6% in US does) because of "less hassel." Most people don't want cameras that are complicated to use....just like cars. Thats why cell phone cameras are soooo popular. If the camera is not auto....I would not even consider it as something I'd own....just like a manual car.
