I have several of these in our house. Absolutely in love with them. Their plugs are great too, along with their led strips, for basic installations.
I had 2 of these HS200 switches behind the exact basic 2-gang plate you linked. The body of the switches pushes the plate away from the wall about 1/8" so it's visible and looks 'unfinished'. The gap didn't have anything to do with the number of wires nor their position in the junction box. The HS200 switch (where the screw goes through) is very thick. If you look at the 1-gang plate that comes with the HS200, that's what you need... just a 2-gang version of it.
I went to Lowe's and got a Lutron Screwless 2-gang wallplate [lowes.com] that looks and fits a LOT better. You can pretty much eliminate the gap behind the plate and it looks very clean. As far as I know, unfortunately, Kasa have not developed 2 or 3-gang wallplates for these and do not plan to.
I actually just installed about 10 of these today. I ran into what you are asking about. The answer is yes it can fit, however it depends how many wires you have back there, and if you have large nuts for neutrals consuming the volume. Also the switches themselves are very large. Two would consume about half the volume in the cavity not including the wires. I'm my case, this required a lot of pushing wires around. About a 20-30 minute job per dual plate.

As others said, the switches are rock solid and fast. Easy to setup in the app. I would recommend especially at this price point.

Does anyone know -- could two of these be installed behind a double-switch panel with a standard double plate? Something like this [lowes.com]?

Look into lever nuts, they take up a lot less space than your typical Large or XL twist nuts and are perfect for dealing with the clusters of neutral wires.

Have recently finished swapping out almost all of my switches with these (after starting with just one for fun...). Absolutely love them. Easy set up, and the Kasa app is pretty great. Links in with Google Assistant so I can control lights with my phone as I walk around the house. Feelin' like George Jetson over here. Smilie

Also have a couple of the plug-ins as well. Also great.

One item of note is that the switches are huge and not all fixtures cam handle dimming. That being said my Kasa has around 12 or 13 now. These are so much cheaper for dimmers than anything from home depot and are smart
