Spoke with Sam's Club customer service about 2 weeks ago. Told your membership must be expired for 6 months before considered a "new" member sign up.

However, if someone else signs up as a new member then you can be their complimentary member no matter how long ago your membership expired.

I have both Costco and Sam's. I always get this Sam's deal. It always comes out free with deals like these. After going to Sam's and Costco's for 10+ years I have found some items at Sam's that I can't find at Costco. If I could only choose 1 membership it would probably be Costco but I really like Sam's too. I love the scan and go at Sam's. It really beats out having to wait in checkout to pay. Also the hotdogs are way better at Sam's lol.

Do you need a more compelling reason than free?

Never used sams. They just send you a card after you sign up online or you get that in-club?

You can go to customerservice to get a card but you don't even need a physical card anymore to shop as u can login in the phone app and show card, 1 less thing to carry.

for the samsclub offer, what are the items that can be purchased to redeem the offer.
Per the wiki, anything in-store except:

Purchases of alcoholic beverages, tobacco, milk, fuel, pharmacy, gift cards, memberships or shipping costs are not included in this offer.

True except according to the terms of redeeming the $45 credit you can't use Scan & Go, which doesn't make sense to me.

I'm a Costco shopper. Does anyone have some compelling reasons as to why trying Sam's Club might be worthwhile?

Everything you want to buy at Sam's club is available at Wal-Mart (at least online) for same price with free 2-day shipping in most cases. I saw no point in renewing the membership as I have Costco membership.
That comment is not even close to being true. I was just at sams today and everything I purchased is not available at walmart

My thoughts as I too have both. Sam's is cheaper for regular things we buy, veggies, fruit, frozen stuff etc. Costco has odd stuff like organic tortillas that cost much more. Who tf is buying organic tortillas? The scan and go, inventory, online shopping, etc. The last piece of what I hate at Costco is moving stuff around constantly. Their entire strategy is about keeping you in the store. Costco will never have mobile app, inventory checker, easy web, etc cause they want you to walk the aisles. It's a farking chore going through it. That annoys me tremendously. Sam's the fkkd is always in the same spot.

If you want no-contact shopping, curbside pickup works well. Order online, go to store, park in numbered spot, use app to tell store you're there, store associate comes to your car and places the items in your car.

They are cheaper because the qty is less, Sam's is sneaky that way, if you buy for example grapes, Costco sells 4lb but the container looks very similar at Sam's but it's 3.5lb and a bit cheaper.

I signed up but I don't see any free 45 dollar offers... I'll see what happens when I go to pick up my card.

For the deal back in July, I went into the store and they applied the $45 credit right to the cost of the membership. Didn't have to put in a credit card at all to get the membership. Anyone know if this deal will work the same?

Be careful. As for me, this same promotion resulted in the scam of Sams club last March. I never got the $45 credit back. Whenever I contacted their customer service, it was really annoying and painful. Finally I gave up and decided not to look back on Sam's club.
