Spoke with Sam's Club customer service about 2 weeks ago. Told your membership must be expired for 6 months before considered a "new" member sign up.

However, if someone else signs up as a new member then you can be their complimentary member no matter how long ago your membership expired.

I have both Costco and Sam's. I always get this Sam's deal. It always comes out free with deals like these. After going to Sam's and Costco's for 10+ years I have found some items at Sam's that I can't find at Costco. If I could only choose 1 membership it would probably be Costco but I really like Sam's too. I love the scan and go at Sam's. It really beats out having to wait in checkout to pay. Also the hotdogs are way better at Sam's lol.

Do you need a more compelling reason than free?

Be careful. As for me, this same promotion resulted in the scam of Sams club last March. I never got the $45 credit back. Whenever I contacted their customer service, it was really annoying and painful. Finally I gave up and decided not to look back on Sam's club.
They literally gave it to me when I walkes in. You dun goofed

I received an email last month - buy a membership for $45 get a $45 gc instantly...so I figured I didn't have anything to lose.. I'm a Costco shopper...
I noticed Sams club has isles and isles of boxes with individuals snacks- cookies, crackers, chips etc, and isles of pre-made frozen food - pizza, bagel bites, burritos etc.. lots of junk food or quick foods, whatever you call it..
There are some things that I saw at Sams club that are either cheaper or not sold at Costco- Mission low carb tortillas 16pk for $6, heavy cream, single gallons of milk, 6pk bell peppers, fresh chicken tenderloins $1.77lb, 4lbs grass fed ground turkey $13.96 and lots of cheap spices...

I would choose Costco over Sams club any day, but given the gift card it was worth it..

I have both Costco and Sam's memberships. I like both, but here are my reasons where Sam's is better. (If this was a Costco post, I would list things about Costco that are better.)

The shopping experience at Sam's is immeasurably better.
- Less crowded
- Shop and scan using app with no checkout line. (Scan and Go)
- Curbside pickup means you don't even have to get out of your car.

- Rotisserie chickens are bigger than Costco's
- Members Mark TP is much better than Kirkland (IMO)
- Sam's has yellow signs in store to indicate where they have the lowest price on an item (vs everyone else in town - Costco included). I find they have slightly lower prices on many things.
- Sam's membership fee is $45 (and practically FREE with this offer) vs Costco is $60

No, Costco is the KING and it is clean. Sam's club is dirty!

Just let our Sam's membership drop after like 15 years. Unless you can make this into a money maker OR you just have no access to Costco then it isn't worth your time. My wife would have me driving 30 minutes PAST the Sam's club to go to Costco bc Costco is just so much better.
Yeah no thanks, Costco is not an extra hour of driving better. Even less so now that Scan-and-Go is available.

And there are always membership deals like this.

For the deal back in July, I went into the store and they applied the $45 credit right to the cost of the membership. Didn't have to put in a credit card at all to get the membership. Anyone know if this deal will work the same?
Terms of deal say cant be used on membership costs. Ymmv I guess.

New memberships only, is there a time cut off for previous members to count as new members again?

And there's less chance of Spreaders (maskless people) at Costco

I love Costco better than SamsClub

Just wish Costco would get a scan and go app like Sams club. I love being able to scan as I shop walk, then pay in the app and walk out the door.... no lines at the checkout

Sam's Scan and Go is a big plus, no need to stand in a queue; scan and do the checkout from the mobile app.
Both Sam's and Costco carry the same brand items but the price is slightly low in Sam's.
My local Costco has a self-checkout now if that makes a difference.

last year we had the $100 membership level, and we got cash back. but I dont really understand how that works. I know at some random point within the last year we were able to use that credit towards purchases.

my question is we had some credit but I dont know how much. the membership expired yesterday and its not showing how much we had.

is that credit lost or do they send a check for that amount?

Mine has had self-checkout for months, but Costco is still always an "anthill" or "beehive" of people. The whole experience from trying to find parking to shopping cart derby to lines at checkout is just sub-par. I still shop there, but I go much less often than I would if it were more efficient.

As someone else posted after checking with customer service it is 6 months, but you can also use a slight variation of your email or a different email address to become a "new" member.

My Costco had them....then removed them....and now put them back. But people don't know how to scan things and still causes a line. Loved the Scan and go.....you just verified at the exit and were gone.

I can dream of a day where Costco does it Smilie

They usually make the "plus" membership earnings available about a month or so before your membership expires as I recall. Probably best to call customer service to find out those details.
