That might have been true some time ago, but coupons have become more and more worthless over the years, especially for food items. I used to semi-extreme coupon at ShopRite (a northeast grocery chain that used to have incredible loss leaders, not so much anymore) almost weekly and get tons of free/cheap items. Any coupons worth a damn have vanished and the regular shelf prices have shot up...I rarely go to a traditional grocery store anymore. Most of my shopping is done at Aldi/Grocery Outlet and certain things from Costco (disclaimer: I am an employee so I don't pay for a membership).
I do agree though that not everything is a bargain. But keep in mind the average Costco shopper/household is someone that earns more than $100k a year, so price is not always a top concern but quality/convenience is.
That being said, I definitely save on the items I buy here and there...even if I had to pay for a membership, the savings would more than cover the $60 a year fee.
