The TCL R635 (7.9 mixed usage rating) is better the the Samsung RU9000 (7.4 mixed usage rating) . The R635 gets much brighter, has a better native contrast ratio, has a local dimming feature, and supports eARC. On the other hand, the RU9000 has better uniformity, handles gradients better, and has a lower input lag.

However, if you do not use the local dimming feature on the TCL there will be horrible black uniformity due to backlight bleed.

The dynamic range and color reproduction makes the Samsung TVs better imo. That's why even in specs the TCL may look good, but when you put them side by side, you'll know who had the better picture. Go to Best Buy and see them side by side if available /possible. Just my 2 cents.
