Never used a Roku TV or box before. Do I need a Roku account in order to use this TV? For example, youtube, cable channel, etc.? What is the Roku account for? I hate to pay for a Roku account just for using this cheap TV.
Roku is more of a platform / streaming OS than a service. You don't need to pay for a Roku account any more than you pay for a google/android, microsoft, apple, blackberry, amazon, sony, etc account. Roku is the platform. You can use the apps for whatever free or subscription based services have apps on roku such as cable channel apps, youtube, netflix, disney, hulu, etc. Roku is like Amazon FireTV, AppleTV, etc but it generally works better because they care more about it being fast and bug free than constantly making the interface prettier and forcing you to upgrade. It just works and is elegant.

Because reddit masterrace gamers are stupid, and they're in dire need of sheep instructions otherwise they don't know which way is up.

Spatial dithering and 444 chroma operate independently.

But overall, if you're worried about text, the dithering does impact it, but not if the text is above the contrast threshold of the dithering.

The dithering will bin and obscure very close luminance/color pixels, but text is usually in a very different color vs surrounding pixels, as is all fine-texture detail, the spatial dithering will not bin these pixels.
After reading your many posts, I realize you are talking on a level way above us reddit sheep...probably 95% of the people posting here? 98%? I remember a chemistry teacher in high school that only performed well as a teacher, to students whom already knew the material (now how helpful is she to the rest of the 98% of us who didn't study chemistry during the summer?). That being said, your statements about spatial dithering, chroma 444, and...your last sentence, whatever that is...are framed in a way that is not exactly helpful to us master-race gamers (yes I'm one myself). Your last post is even further to the extreme than your previous posts...it's like using the same word in the definition of the word. We have no basis with which to understand your statements (again, this is $88 tv, not $10k tv where every bit and every specification must matter). This is why we go to sites like rtings.com. From there we can hopefully translate a bunch of tech jargon, although we very much appreciate the value and time rtings experts put into their reviews and helping us decide, but probably have no way of associating with it. So we end up going with rting's numerical value with which we can associate our usage and or specification we may know about or want. It would be helpful if, based on your expert knowledge and opinion, you could give us a value from 1-10 to rate this as a computer monitor. If you want, dazzle us with extra explanation; That will surely please those who are in the know. I'm going to crawl back into my cave of ignorance.

Theres been a number of TV's for really low prices going on sale (or about to go on sale) from Walmart the past week or so. Maybe not the best quality but for the prices, pretty damn insane
I'm wondering when if finally does go on sale, if there's like a stock of 20 nationally and they sell out instantly.

This is false. Tons of engineers on here. The more technical the better. There's nothing an engineer cannot understand.
Except perhaps humility.

Couldnt you just buy these then when they go on sale price match?
These deals are typically unique sku so they cannot be price matched because technically no one else has the exact tv.

I'm a software engineer. I was hoping an engineer in the arts of tv's and their technologies could break it down for me. It might also help a civil engineer or others...Thanks!

Believe they meant buy it from Walmart now and go back at sale price to price match.

From what I saw in-store my biggest complaint would be the poor viewing angles. The TV was set on Vivid so the colors popped.

I would not trust any of the reviews on the Wal-Mart page for these products as they are all by "Spark Reviewers". I'm guessing they struggled to sell these units and this is their way to get rid of inventory.
Thanks for the info. Not too reassuring on the quality of this tv. But hey its going to be $88 and for some people it would hit their price point.

I have the 43. Got it last december. It will randomly reboot twice a month. I gave 178 for it and too lazy to pull it from the wall to replace.

Twice a month? That makes it more reliable than the Roku Ultras I'm using. They crash at least once a week. Philo, Sling, Curiosity Stream all cause crashes. Plex seems stable.

Have to keep the revenue growth up or the stock price goes down.🤨
Except that's not how it works. Otherwise they'd discount everything massively just to crush all the competition. Seems margins / profits matter too Smilie
