Is that less than regular?
Kids are getting a switch for Christmas. I want to get another set of joy cons. Any recommendations on which to get from where? Are any of the amazon knockoffs good or only the originals? Should I get a thing to connect them together into one controller?
IMO just suck it up and buy an OEM Pro controller. I'm sure the generics are really close to the OEM, but in the long run i think they last longer in terms of longevity..

Regular price for this pro controller is $69.99, but it's been $59 at Walmart for many months now.

Regardless of the price on the website, the in-store price is always $59.00 at Walmart (https://brickseek.com/walmart-inv...u=55485228), so, don't feel pressure to hop on this deal unless you don't have a Walmart nearby. I highly recommend this over the knockoffs. If you own the pro controller then it will quickly become your kid's favorite controller so your only problem is that they might fight over it 😀

Thanks guys. So if I get extra joy cons do I need the middle piece to connect them together like a full controller for some games?
I may wait and see if Black Friday has something better before jump8ng

Not required to get the middle piece that connects the joycons to play any game. Switch games work with the controllers in any configuration whether it be a single joycon, two joycons connected together with the middle piece (as you mentioned), or a pro controller. There is no game that I know of that requires that you have a specific controller to play. A single joycon is sufficient for all nintendo switch games. It really comes down to personal controller preference/availability.

That is up to you. You can get it to be close to a pro controller, but slightly awkward. I would suggest thr charging one where you can plug the middle piece into USB and charge the joycons with it
If you have an Xbox controller or Nintendo Wii U pro controller you may do better to just buy a 8bitdo Wireless Bluetooth adapter or Mayflash Magic-NS. I'm reusing my Wii U pro controller with 8bitdo and it works flawlessly and much cheaper. Even wii-mote can work but it has fewer buttons so may not work for all games. Really don't like Nintendo on forcing us to rebuy expensive proprietary accessories every time.

There are various games that can't be played with a Pro Controller such as Super Mario Party that must be played with a single joycon. Various games must be played with either both joycons or a Pro Controller. And a few games like VOEZ which can only be played in handheld mode (usually because of some touchscreen feature). Then there are games like Nintendo Labo and Ring Fit that must be played using the joycons and their respective accessories. But I don't think there's any that only work with Pro Controller.
I highly recommend picking up the official Pro Controller. It really improved my enjoyment of the Switch after I ditched the joycons. You will instantly feel the difference in movement especially in 3D games like Breath of the Wild. And disregard the person above that said the cheaper knockoffs are just as good. I've used 2 different ones and they both feel extremely cheap by comparison.
minor rant here: I have the original joy-cons (with drift, haven't sent them in), "PowerA" remote (doesn't connect anymore), KINVOCA C25 Joypad (drift after 2 weeks), two newer joy-cons (design hasn't been fixed so they'll fail eventually), and one generic joypad (which functions fine, but the ergonomics suck. Why is this so hard for these companies to make a remotely quality product??!

There are some games that require both Joy-Cons (Minecraft and some Lego games come to mind) so you can't say a single Joy-Con is sufficient for all Nintendo Switch games.
More important for this thread though, there actually are some games that CAN'T be played with the Pro Controller, Mario Party is one of them.

Note, this is not a Joy-Con, it's the Pro Controller. If you want Joy-Cons, they're regularly priced at $79.99 but here is a post for $69 https://slickdeals.net/f/14456546-nintendo-joy-con-l-r-neon-pink-neon-green-69.
And of course retailers like Best Buy you can price match.

Nope, no need for the middle piece.
