I bought this tablet when it was first released and I hate it. The shape and even usability are completely frustrating compared to an older model IPad. I've had 2 galaxy phones that are great but this tablet was poorly designed for my personal likes.
It's a good price. Much less than I paid but if you are used to an IPad then wait till BF and score one for not much more.
Exynos 7904A chip and 3GB ram is not designed for gaming or multi-tasking Tab A is perfect for just watching videos or zoom meetings.
I just brought a Samsung Tab A7 for $170, the design is so pretty, way better looking than this. The battery life and speakers is better than my wife's iPad 8th gen.
I deleted almost all the apps came with, for saving more RAM to let it run more smoothly. Installed a 256GB TF card for offline movies/videos. Hulu, Netflix, YouTube, among us and Google play store are the only 5 apps I have installed.
Pay $120 more for an iPad 8th gen if you don't mind the lighting charging port and only 32GB storage.( I personally can't have two different kind of cords with me, and need more storage for offline YouTube videos on the go ) But iPad can do much more and better than Samsung tab A series, it runs faster, more efficient and smooth, even can edit photos if you really want to, and it can last at least 3 years before it gets laggy.
And pay $400 for iPad Air 4th gen for USB C charging/data port, A14 chip performance, dual speakers and touch ID. (IPad OS 14 is not really friendly for multi-tasking) But I can't spend almost $600 for a tablet for just watching movies and sports.
I have two Tab A7 tablets. A 16 GB 1st gen and a 16 GB newer model that is wide screen. Both are 7" and I still use both. They are good for Facebook, web surfing and doing Office tasks and simple operations. The 16 GB model is constantly challenging to keep storage free. SD memory is added but every time apps update I have to manually move them back to SD. Perhaps the most disappointing feature is the single speaker that when in portrait mode often gets covered and muffles the sound. If using with headphones or earbuds maybe not an issue.
I like them both but these are definitely budget tablets. I don't know if the 10" version has similar issues but I can't even find where located or how many speakers there are.
I wish the SD memory could be configured as extended. Would make life much better!

Similar opinion here. Apps and even chrome crashes on or locks up this tablet often. Either samsumg hasn't bothered to optimize android on this or the weird incongruent 2x big 6x little cpu this has doesn't work well for android and its apps. My older ipad mini 3 still runs circles around this junk. Size is also really akward in that is it too tall to width. My older nexus 2013ish nexus 7 tablet also works better than this. Samsung makes good phones but terrible tablets.

Well for a different opinion I have an iPad, iPad Pro and a Galaxy S4, S6 and the two Tab A mentioned here the 2019 and 2020 ones. All have advantages and a few problems.
The iPads are the worst with horrible memory manage issues and Safari compatibility problems. Apps either close right away or stall after a few pages forcing a memory reset. Safari mangles a lot of web pages forcing me to use chrome or a pc. Lack of room on the iPads has half my apps offloaded. Nice screen tho but on the low end iPad not very sensitive, games are a real challenge when it takes time to register a click.
All my Galaxies are at Android 10 now. The S6 is pretty wonderful, light powerful and plenty of room. The S4 is real nice too just a generation back. Samsung's built in apps run rings around the Apple ones. The browser is good and supports ad blocking! The mail app is highly functional. No real problems with app stability. The Galaxy tabs are very similar but lack the super screens of the s4 and S6. I do like the latest tabs 4 speakers but think the screens rounded corners are sort of funky. Narrow bezels are nice to have on all of them.
Your mileage may vary but I think you have to spend a lot more on an iPad than a comparable Galaxy and be prepared to live within the Apple silly boundaries to get by. I find being unable to purchase music and books in anyone's apps other than Apples is very non competitive.
This is excellent for an entry level tablet and a better option than an overpriced locked down iPad with no storage expansion capabilities... Some may confuse this with the lesser 2GB Tab A... The 128GB has 3GB RAM... this is great for browsing and you see a major difference with apps like Instagram, YouTube and watching movies/TV when you want a bigger display... I wouldn't do gaming on a tablet anyway... So I'll stick to XBOX and PS for that...

Your situation seems to not be the norm. I had an S8 and have an S20 Fe I just bought. I love them both but this tablet is pure junk. I have an older model IPad Air with a shattered screen that runs rings around this junk. I have no issues with app purchases on any of my IPads.
This is garbage. Its retardedly slow. It doesn't crash but it lagging so much you almost expect it to happen. I hardly use it for anything, but when I do, I put it right back down. Seriously, why make such a shit device with all you have? Don't buy.
This deal alerted me to check on S6 prices as they often drop together. Specifically on an open box model nearby of a 256GB S6. New was $699/ open box for $480.99 yesterday. Price down to $529.99 new and $396.99 for the open box today. Just picked it up and all that was wrong was missing USB cable. Score and thanks OP for the roundabout tip.

On paper they were way better than my fire tablets... IRL? Nope. They were slow and choppy. I returned them within a week.
Don't buy these. They've been the same price forever and keep getting posted here. SMH.
