This receiver is one of the most highly rated receivers up to $2000 in price. I have the newer model x3700, and there is very little difference. I would jump on this even if you have a $2500 budget for a receiver. Check out this website for the full review: https://audiosciencereview.com/fo...iew.12676/

The Yamaha TSR-700 supports HDMI 2.1 on multiple inputs, so it has a huge advantage from a video capability standpoint (with up to 8K 60Hz and 4K 120Hz with full support for 4K 60p at 4:4:4). From an audio standpoint, the Denon AVR-x3600H is the champ, with 11.2 pre-amp output and 9 internal amps and it can support Dolby Atmos 7.1.4, unlike the Yamaha which is 7.2, only stereo pre-outs and can support Dolby Atmos 5.1.2 at best with internal amps). The TSR-700 is closer in comparison to the Denon AVR-x2600H.

Multi-channel receivers all have a lot of configuration options and these two are no exception. People who are familiar with Denon settings will likely find the 3600H easier to set up. No info on the Yamaha since it is all new.

I think you are mistaken about the x3700h price. I searched all over for months and the recent Greentoe deal for 950 is the best out there.

Reasons to get the 3700 over the 3600:
- 4K@120hz and 8k. But there is a bug with this currently and it doesn't work. Might need a hardware fix.
- Full amp disconnect when only using the preouts. Super useful if you have all external amplification. This effectively makes this receiver the cheapest pre/pro available.
- 1 year newer so longer support (obvious)

With free returns until January 31 in case the price gets lower, this is a no-brainer, right?

Yes, but people have been getting the X3700H in the mid $800's so if you are prepared to be patient and make the effort you can get the latest version for not a lot more money. If you are in a hurry and you don't want to make the effort, or you don't know how to, then this could be a good deal for you.

When and where? I searched SD and saw it for $949 I think.

Where do you get a x3700h for less than a $1000?

From Audioholics review:

"For $1,100 the Denon X3600H comes with 11CH of processing to do a full 7.1.4 speaker system with the addition of a 2CH external amplifier. The only other receiver that offers this capability is the Onkyo TX-ZR830 which is being discontinued as we await announcement of the TX-ZR840 replacement model. The Denon is the only model in this price class that allows you to reassign unused amplifier channels so you can add a 2CH power amp to the front channels and run a full 7.1.4 or 11CH speaker surround system. Denon has dropped the gauntlet with this model having most of the feature set of it's more expensive brethren, the AVR-X4500H. The AVR-X4500H offers slightly more power (125wpc vs 105wpc), and Auro 3D processing but if those features aren't important to you, then the AVR-X3600H is your ticket. The AVR-X3600H truly offers best in class features at this price point. Impressive."

no one i know ever used the front port anyway.
I frequently use it. Using it right now actually. Makes it easy to add a device temporarily.

Good for who looks for Imax and atmos height virtualization other than weak output power less inputs and plastic front panel when 4 series with metal front , for that price I'll go for higher model 4400 or 4500 . Detailed compare with 4400 is here https://www.zkelectronics.com/com...4400h/usa/
