This receiver is one of the most highly rated receivers up to $2000 in price. I have the newer model x3700, and there is very little difference. I would jump on this even if you have a $2500 budget for a receiver. Check out this website for the full review: https://audiosciencereview.com/fo...iew.12676/

The Yamaha TSR-700 supports HDMI 2.1 on multiple inputs, so it has a huge advantage from a video capability standpoint (with up to 8K 60Hz and 4K 120Hz with full support for 4K 60p at 4:4:4). From an audio standpoint, the Denon AVR-x3600H is the champ, with 11.2 pre-amp output and 9 internal amps and it can support Dolby Atmos 7.1.4, unlike the Yamaha which is 7.2, only stereo pre-outs and can support Dolby Atmos 5.1.2 at best with internal amps). The TSR-700 is closer in comparison to the Denon AVR-x2600H.

Multi-channel receivers all have a lot of configuration options and these two are no exception. People who are familiar with Denon settings will likely find the 3600H easier to set up. No info on the Yamaha since it is all new.

Yes, but people have been getting the X3700H in the mid $800's so if you are prepared to be patient and make the effort you can get the latest version for not a lot more money. If you are in a hurry and you don't want to make the effort, or you don't know how to, then this could be a good deal for you.

So other than this, what advantage does 3700 have over 3600? If I wanted to sort of future proof my purchase, should I go for 3700 if I get a $1000 sale?
I have the x3700. I would only pay $100 max more for the x3700 over the x3600. The x3600 has like 99% of what the x3700 has. Same crystal clear sound and super low distortion levels.

So I see the Avr 4500 decodes auro 3D whereas the 3600 does not.

Sorry for my ignorance.. but is there a good number of movies with auro 3D audio?

Also, wondering if video source does not have atmos or auro 3D soundtrack, is nothing playing out of speakers that you dedicated to the "heights" channels on your receiver.

I'm coming from an older onkyo receiver 7.1 (no height speakers)...
No. Auro 3D is not worth it unless you've heard it and somehow think it is awesome. Most people don't think it's worth the money.

Yeah, this is a bad year for a receiver upgrade.

Go with whatever price you feel is "cheaping out" for the basic features you feel are minimum for your setup and plan for an upgrade in 2 years or so rather than the typical 5 year cycle.
Yeah, most people aren't anywhere close to needing 8k pass through or 120Hz yet. Let the technology mature and upgrade when it does. For now a X3500 would be more than sufficient for a lot of folks. Heck, my X3400 does a great job for me and will hold me over just fine until I upgrade my 1080p front projector in a year or two.

Sure, post that deal and I'll thumbs up it. I was commenting on this deal. This is a great deal for those who don't have a x3700 hook up. And it's through Amazon with extended returns until the end of January.

Does x3700 run as hot as x3600?
Yes. All Denon receivers are running hot this generation and last generation. They run hot unless you turn off the amps and use a separate power amp with this receiver.

I didn't see anyone mention that the newer x700 models added a second preset for Audyssey. Some may not care, but this is invaluable to me personally (I have two seating positions). It's something to keep in mind if you're choosing between the 3600 and 3700. I bought the 4700 a couple months ago for $1399.

Overpriced for a non hdmi2.1 reciever. Drop this to $400-500 would be decent. Onkyo nr797 9.2 is $399.
Where are you seeing the 797 for 399?

People still use receivers these days? Why?

It's just a mess of cables everywhere and one more awful remote to deal with.
Do... do you listen through your TV speakers? I think the quality there answers your question.

Isn't it the opposite these days. Only fools would not have a receiver? Any remote that comes bundled with a TV or receiver should go straight into the trash. Use a harmony or equivalent.

Pulled the trigger (via Cructchfield). My last receiver purchase was a Yamaha RX-V377 in 2015 for $180. I guess those types of deals are gone.
