I have the detent anvil on my DCF894 and can take off the sockets by hand without a problem....

While the 899 gets you roughly double the torque of the 894, I would recommend the 894 if removing lug nuts is your application. The 894 is plenty powerful for that and you'll just be carrying around unnecessary size and weight unless you have a more demanding application. In a vacuum this is probably the better deal though.

It has a switch for 3 settings as well as a variable speed trigger. I pretty much stick to setting "2"

I'm in the DeWalt family and looking to get an impact wrench primarily for changing tires. Is this a better option than the Grainger deal?

I use the DCF894 for changing tires and it works fine but sometimes takes several seconds of impact before it loosens the lugs. The DCF899 has over twice the torque and would loosen lug nuts even faster. However it could also over-tighten them.

I got the DCF894 for $179 with a free battery, but $199 for the DCF899, battery, and charger is a fantastic deal.

For anyone considering this for automotive work (lug nuts/suspension work) it absolutely can handle anything you can throw at it. The issue with this version is it has the "detent anvil", where you need a tool to take your socket off. The anvil you would like is called the "hog ring" by dewalt, or also known as a friction ring by other manufacturers. To me, it is a dealbreaker. I have personally have the hog ring version of the dcf899 and love it

It may be different on smaller models. I've used the detent anvil 899, and sometimes the only way to get the socket off is with a punch. Especially with greasy hands. The entire purpose of the detent anvil is so that the socket doesn't come off easily... again, would not recommend for automotive work where you are constantly switching sockets. Great tool, depending on your use.

This is a fantastic impact. I own the hog ring version and love it. The hog ring makes for much easier socket changes. As a matter of fact, I just decided to freshen the gun up a bit after 2 1/2 years of hard use by ordering a new anvil and plastic housing for $35 from the Dewalt parts store. Both the housing and anvil are really beat up, but the gun still works great.

nope, same detent anvil. Of course it would be harder if your hands are covered in grease. my point is, I read all the "internet experts" saying how hard it was to remove sockets from the detent anvil, and was pleasantly surprised how wrong they all were when I got my tool.

Agree, I like the detent pin. If your going to be changing sockets a lot just don't line up the pin with the hole in the socket. If you don't want the socket to get stuck on the fastener you are trying to remove, (Which I find more annoying), then line up the pin and lock the socket on the wrench.

I find it more a pain to go back and forth trying to get a socket stuck on fastener off, or going to the next fastener and wondering where the socket went.


That being said, its been this price several times.
