Yes, all model 899s are made in USA. The mid-torque 894s are hit or miss.

I would also concur for the casual user the hog ring is the way to go. I borrowed my neighbors detent pin model using my own impact sockets before I bought my own and I loved the tool, hated changing sockets. During my own research in different tool forums I also found some heavy users actually breaking the detent pin anvil since it is weakened with having to drill out and insert the detent pin and spring. This tool is great for removal (think Honda 19mm crank pulley bolt), one must exercise caution with over torquing on tightening, but using Speed 1 is nice, then the torque wrench. This is a fantastic deal though, as I picked up my hog ring model as a bare tool only slightly less than this.

Exactly...tighten with torque wrench

I think the prior post writer was confused..as you would not use an impact wrench for final tightening process

Most common diy usage is to remove lug nuts on auto tires...basically for mechanic /auto based maintenance and repairs

I am hoping Ryobi releases a high torque one later on, the one I currently have is rated pretty low (350 ft/lbs) compared to this, but it takes care of the majority of work I've done on my vehicle, but having a high torque one for those stubborn bolts would be nice

For occasional automotive use (maybe 3 times per year doing lug nuts and suspension work), is it worth getting this over the Avid Power impact wrench on Amazon for less than 100 bucks. I know this is better quality, but is it overkill?

In for 1. I have a DW 899 hog ring version and been waiting to buy one as gift for my 77yo dad with farm. I find hog ring can be difficult to line up to put sockets on and I end up tapping ground or equipment to drive it on. I guess I will find out if I prefer easy on or easy off or if getting off with detent is an issue at all. I normally use larger deep-well impacts 18-23mm or SAE equiv on wheels, hay disc mower blades, or baler roller bearings so plenty to grab and twist off. I mostly like this deal because of the charger and bag since dad has no Dewalt tools and better than $259 grainger for hog ring. While recently changing a flat in the pasture, I also used my Dewalt inflator to air up large rear tractor tires from 5 PSI to 20 PSI and topped off the front tires too. Lithium powered tools are a game changer!

this is overkill, but that generic amazon one has a pretty low rating. it should do most lug nuts, but rusted suspension nuts and bolts will be a challenge.
