For different NVMe SSD comparison, please google SSD Buying Guide by Newmaxx.
That being said, the P2 is the improved version of its predecessor, the P1 (or intel 660P). The P2 has improvements in many aspects such as sequential write, sequential read, and TBW. However, despite the improvements, the P2 is still a entry level TLC SSD, and there are many other TLC SSD that will out perform this drive at this price range (SN550).
The price of P2 will likely to fall down even more later in the year (probably around $85). If you can wait, I would suggest to wait just a little bit longer when BF is around the corner.
Lacking DRAM - but will that matter if I plan on putting it in an external USB-C 3.1 Gen2 10Gbps enclosure?
If you're not going to pay 50% more, then you're not going to get a dram model, anyway. And it doesn't matter. The difference is marginal for 99% of users. I'm a power user and I'm sure as hell not paying that much more for the small increase in performance (I would stripe cheaper ones lol).

External severely limits sequential read/write.
External severely limits sequential read/write.
That's not an insignificant amount money, but if it helps even on external use, I would consider the higher priced version w/DRAM.
How about sx8200 pro vs sn750 ?
