I'm still holding out hope for a 16TB EasyStore to be announced soon. WD already has 18/20TB models so its only a matter of time.

These won't get lower. BB does this every year, they offer the BF pricing a few weeks ahead of BF and then again at BF. I buy their BF special drives every year and upgrade both my servers and sell off the drives from the year before. It's the exact same scenario every time. This year it's the 14TB. Last year was the 12TB, 10 before that and 8 before that.
Where do you guys sell your old hard drives?

I stopped selling things on eBay / PayPal because I simply got scammed too much. Now I have a ridiculous surplus of tech in my house.

This morning around 7am a buddy of mine said he was able to buy 5 in one order and placed a second order for an additional three.
Around 3pm I tried to order but it was already limited to 1 per order. I was only able to place three orders of a single drive shipped to home. It was checking billing address so I couldn't place a store pickup order for when they restock, I didn't bother trying paypal.
My local stores are all out of stock according to the app.

They've done deals like this for years at this point. They should understand the demand by this point.
They ran out in less than an hour back in March.

You sometimes have to use a 4 pin molex to sata power adapter. Newer drive standards have a certain pin that allows them to wake or spindown, which is controlled by the hard drive enclosure controller. Using the 4 pin molex to sata power adapter doesn't have that pin so it allows the drive to stay awake.

It's "PWDIS." Supposedly you can turn the drives on and off through remote BIOS management.

The Pesky PWDIS Feature In Newer SATA Specs [tomshardware.com]
Quote :
This feature utilizes the third pin (P3) of the SATA connector, which in the older SATA specifications is tied to the first (P1) and second (P2) pins, and all of them carrying the 3.3V rail to the drive in use. According to the newer SATA specs, P3 is now independent and transfers the power disable signal. This means that if you combine a PSU with the older SATA connectors, featuring 3.3V at P3, and a new HDD that supports the power disable feature, the HDD won't ever start because it will see a continuous high-state signal on P3. It will get stuck in a hard reset condition, which will prevent the HDD from spinning up.

What 200$ deal?
While $180 is the lowest it has been, he was referring to the fact that in every sale thread for the 8, 10 or 12tb drives there is always a bunch of people that feel that everyone on the thread needs to know they are waiting for the $200 14tb deal to come back around. Of course now we have the ones that have to now change it to 16tb. They will probably be waiting until next BF for that deal if we even get there by then.

Keep them and use them as backups for your new drives?

Not an SSD. The old traditional spinning platters.

Thanks. Yeah I'm waiting a really good deal on an SSD. I don't trust those old spinning platters.

How did you get scammed if you were the one selling the item? Just wondering since I was going to do the same thing.
