TL;DR It won't be a significant difference for the vast majority of people.
I stopped selling things on eBay / PayPal because I simply got scammed too much. Now I have a ridiculous surplus of tech in my house.
Its best to sell HDD after proper formatting locally to avoid these hassles. I just tend to keep old drives with backups instead of trying to sell them. Doesnt seem worth the effort for me.
