I feel you. Had it happen to me this month too. Buyer said not as described, PayPal tells him to send it back and freeze the money on my account. Buyer tries to wait out and not send it back. Paypal sees he never shipped it back and switch directions in my favor. I had a perfect eBay rating for 19-1/2 years, never an issue. I don't think I will chance it again because this was a $250 photography filter the guy wanted to scam me out of. Good thing I had insurance and adult signature on it. I learned my mistake 14 years ago when another scammer said he did not receive the merchandise and I ended up taking the loss back then.

I bought one of these at the beginning of the month at $229. I'm past the return period and BB chat won't do a price adjustment. Is there anything else I can do or just SOL?
I guess Before 10/13?

It's fine lol. if you look back on past deals you'll see an endless ocean of "inb4 shuck" comments. It's kind of a tradition at this point. If you're just using it for additional storage, there's no reason to shuck it. people usually buy these in bulk to use in special enclosures, but if you're not doing that there's no real benefit aside from less clutter and negligible reduction in power usage (this comes with it's own "wall wart" power supply), but this doesn't really become a factor unless you're running several of them.
Is it faster to run this drive inside my desktop?

Also I bought these back when they were $200. Both my drives are WD140EMFZ-11A0WA0 also.

Actually, great question, can these enclosures be used with any SATA drive? Or is it specific to WD?
they can be used with any SATA drive, and the actual controllers are quite small. After shucking, I keep the SATA controllers around along with the cables in case I need them.

In for 4 - free shipping, no tax.. $759.96. I just had a talk with the wife when Amazon Prime Days had the 12TB for 179... this is such a better deal. Glad I waited. Thank goodness for Slick Deal Alerts!
No tax? You must be a billionaire. Only billionaires get to pay zero taxes.

Theoretically SATA III maxes out at around 600MB/s, while USB 3.0 maxes out at ~500MB/s--but in reality you're not going to be hitting these speeds due to both a) the physical speed at which the drive actually spins (e.g., 5400RPM vs 7200RPM vs 10000RPM) and b) because sustained read/write vs. random read/write will cause speeds to fluctuate constantly. USB 3.1 is significantly faster than USB 3.0, but because they're still mechanical drives, the SATA III transfer limit will eventually become the bottleneck. In my personal experience, most mechanical drive operations will max out somewhere around 100±30MB/s regardless of the interface.

TL;DR It won't be a significant difference for the vast majority of people.

Where do you guys sell your old hard drives?

I stopped selling things on eBay / PayPal because I simply got scammed too much. Now I have a ridiculous surplus of tech in my house.
Be careful trying to sell hard drives. Unless you do a deep format, your data can be recovered to some extent. Further, there is always possibility of damage in shipping and even if you package and ship it out carefully, if the buyer decides to return it back to you, they might not be so careful in packaging.

Its best to sell HDD after proper formatting locally to avoid these hassles. I just tend to keep old drives with backups instead of trying to sell them. Doesnt seem worth the effort for me.

That is my thinking as well. I skipped buying last year and went straight for 14tb from 10tb 2 years back.

Check with your credit card. Some credit cards still have 60 days or more of price protection.
