SHR always uses one drive with the largest capacity for parity, so putting one 14TB in won't get you anything more than what the Synology has now. You will want to buy at least two 14TB drives. Replace one drive, wait for SHR to rebuild, then repeat with the other new drive. You will end up with 2TB more than current. If you were to replace all four 12TB drives, you would end up with 6TB more than current.

The golden question, what's inside?

Extended returns in effect if you're on the fence.

Purchases made October 13, 2020 through January 2, 2021 have an extended return period through January 16, 2021

These won't get lower. BB does this every year, they offer the BF pricing a few weeks ahead of BF and then again at BF. I buy their BF special drives every year and upgrade both my servers and sell off the drives from the year before. It's the exact same scenario every time. This year it's the 14TB. Last year was the 12TB, 10 before that and 8 before that.

Run CrystalDiskInfo to verify that it really is a 14TB drive. Mine was the same with the PC only recognizing 149-150gb. It wasn't until I ran CrystalDiskInfo that I realized someone swapped the 14tb with an old WD 160gb drive. The outside box looked brand new without any signs of it being opened. But when I looked close up at the the external drive case edges, you can see some plastic wear which would indicate it was opened before.

It shows up as a Samsung HD160JJ which is a 160GB drive. Looks like I got duped. How is that possible when to shipped straight from BestBuy?

I read a prior post that if the shipping address has DC it's from a distribution center and if it's SFS, it's shipped from a store. What does your shipping label say?

And it's interesting that we both got duped with 160gb drives.

I took it back to Best Buy for a refund today (OOS so exchange was not possible) and explained the situation. The manager couldn't care less to look into it and just gave me a refund to make me go on my way.

Mine came from a distribution center in KY according to my label.

This is my first time experiencing this issue so I was definitely confused by it. I never even thought of people swapping out the drive and returning or whatever they did.

I just ordered another from the website and will return this one to the store tomorrow hopefully without issue.

I picked up two from a store yesterday and aside from one box being lighter than the other, I could not tell them apart. The boxes were in pristine condition with original stickers and plastic so it makes me wonder if the swap is done at the factory as opposed to Best Buy?

ordered 3 (the limit) under my account. So far one cancellation already.
"Unfortunately, we had to cancel your order because it has exceeded our orderable quantity limits."

anyone else experienced the same?

You can always reformat a drive.
