This is certainly no 5 HP cast iron behemoth. But for a reasonably portable, bench top sized model it works pretty well. I disagree that you can't do thickness planing on it. There are guidelines near the feed in that show depth of cut limits for different width material and I've found if you adhere to those or a little on the conservative side it works great. Sure, if you have a wide piece that you need to take a lot off you will have to do several passes.
It's certainly not perfect. The stock blades are also on the soft side and tend to nick easily which can leave raised lines in your piece. Not a huge issue for me since there would be a number of finishing steps after this for a nice piece or if it's something rough I wouldn't care. Also, if you're not careful about support long pieces feeding in or out you can get some snipe on the first/last 3 or 4 inches or so.
I've had this unit for 2 years and for a hobbyist with limited permanent shop space it's a great tool.
I managed to get the an extra 10% HD competitive off;
Paid $449.07 +tax 37.05
I am in Texas - Houston 77479
The closest Blain's is over 1000 miles away.
You are very lucky to get the deal .this is the response I got from chat agent.
" I greatly appreciate your patience with me today. At this time farmandfleet.com is not a valid competitor for us to price match to".
I had no issue getting a price match, both through chat and over the phone. However, I struck out both times with the extra 10%, not sure the secret on that.
Get a little extra cashback with raku on Blain's so will probably go that route.

Sorry to hear. Try calling again, hopefully you will get another agent. Looks like many are able to get my deal.
I was offered the price match on HD.com, but denied the 10% off. She told me that to give the extra 10% off, she would need to enter a code on Her computer. Sounds like if I had a code, I would get 10% as well. Will do some research and call back.
Where are y'all coming with with the notion that Lowe's matches price minus 10%? I am looking at their policy online, and nothing about an additional 10% is mentioned.
I am aware that associates do have some flexibility to apply additional discount - but it does not seem to be a part of the policy I am seeing online.

Unless they've changed it, the policy was that they would beat the competition by 10%
Was able to get Home Depot to price match via online chat -- agent initially reviewed and said it wasn't eligible because I did not have a Blain's local to me (Virginia), but I pointed out that their policy only says it has to be available to ship to my home, not that you need a local store. After a long wait (supervisor check, I assume), the agent said they could price match.
Struck out on the 10%, but it was ~$5 cheaper in taxes than on Blain's, and it's arriving tomorrow instead of next week. $528 total.
I'd almost pulled the trigger on this at $531+$30ish taxes on ebay (via CPO) earlier this week, so definitely happy.

Got Home Depot to do a price march on it. They wouldn't do the beat by 10% since it's not store policy anymore (as of May 2020), and then used my 15% coupon on it, for a grand total of $436 shipped to home. Very happy!

Unless I am missing something - nothing about 10%. Maybe you can still get it if you insist?
