Star Wars: Squadrons (PC Digital Download) starting from $19.99

Epic [epicgames.com] store has Star Wars™: Squadrons for $19.99 when you apply the Epic $10 off coupon (should be in your account if you got it last time). For those who care, this will require both Origins and Epic clients on your PC to download and play the game.

Footnote says: AND DOWNLOAD, & INSTALLATION & BACKGROUND USE OF THE ORIGIN CLIENT SOFTWARE (origin.com/download) REQUIRED TO PLAY

GreenManGaming [greenmangaming.com] also has PC version of Star Wars™: Squadrons for $26.99. The redemption is through Origins (you'll have to login to origins via GMG to activate the digital key directly on your origins account)

For VR Users:
  • Steam version of the game has some issues with native Oculus SDK (works fine with other VR headsets though). This particular Origins version and Epic store version works fine. I purchased GMG version 2 days back and it works great so far after certain optimization.
  • EA also released a 1GB patch this weekend for the frame drops and frame locking at 60 in VR.
  • You might still encounter certain hiccups depending on how your gaming rig is. I've followed this [reddit.com] and got a much better experience

Does anyone know how the Epic Store version works? It's less there with the $10 off coupon. Does it add it to your Origin account, or do you have to go through both Epic AND Origin every time you launch?

Update: Epic links to your EA account and after that you only need Origin running to play.

Update 2: I was wrong, it starts up Origin and the Epic Games Launcher too, and of course Steam for VR. What a mess.

It requires both for installation. Afterwards, you can launch the game I think from Origins directly (not sure if Epic clients needs to be running in the background though).

For the Steam version, if you use the SideQuest version of Virtual Desktop, you don't have to have the Oculus desktop app running to play the game. You can just launch it straight from SteamVr and it seems to work much better.

Well, I think that would be valid for any version of the game because they all launch with SteamVR regardless. That being said, I'm having some trouble with VD. Somehow it loses focus from the running game and then the menu pops up while the game goes to the background. Not sure what's wrong since I have a dedicated router for just Quest 2. The link cable works for me but I think VD does a much better job and can work at 90 FPS after the recent patch.

Anyone know why it's priced so low, even full retail is only $40? Will it be heavy on DLC or other added costs?

At $20 this is a no brainer, cheaper than most oculus games at this point. Copped.

I bought it on epic. when I click to install it shows install origin. after I link both accounts and origin complains there's no game and asks me to activate a game. When I tried to get help, Epic customer service is horrible and has no idea what I am asking. I got refund though.

Any more color on how to get the $10 coupon? I'm searching old threads without much luck.

In case you only want to beat the campaign and move on, you can get 10 hours of access through EA play. Pay $5 for one month of EA Play, beat the campaign which averages 8 hours, move on to another game for the rest of the month. I pretty much rent all EA games for a month at a time now now.

Log in to your Epic account, and where your account name is, I had a $10 coupon in Coupons. Not sure when I added it, but I vaguely remember a Slickdeals thread about it.

eta: looks like this is where I got it https://slickdeals.net/f/14051816-epic-games-mega-sale-make-any-purchase-get-a-coupon-10-off-15

Don't get this on Epic or Origin if you want to play VR. There's no way to start the game directly into VR mode from those versions. So every time, you have to manually enable VR, then do a dance between the desktop and the headset in order to confirm VR mode within a couple seconds after selecting it, juggling the headset, the joystick, and the VR controllers in order to make it happen. Plus there's voodoo to get it to go into VR mode even if you do the dance (has to be in Windowed mode, has to be on top, has to be the active window).

Seriously, just buy the Steam version. The controller you'll eventually throw through the window is going to cost a lot more than the $10 you can save at Epic.
