Not when they are on sale. Just wait. I got the 9A HP for ~$50 last year. For non HP batteries, the starter kit tool bundle deal that has 2 batteries and available several times every year would be a better deal than this.

The HP battery has an extra contact point. The power it provides on a brushless tool is night and day. Look for a review on Youtube for the brushless circular saw using the HP battery. You can use the HP battery in non-brushless tool also and it would not affect its life. If you do not plan to own any brushless tools, then you may get the regular battery. I actually regret having a few non-brushless tools that I got several years ago. I would definitely get the brushless version if I knew the difference at that time. All my later tools are brushless version whenever it is available. I have the brushless circular saw and I used it to repair my deck and built some shelves. It works almost like a corded one, so now my corded one is now collecting dust.
High drain power tool just need higher capacity battery (i.e. more Ah). HP battery give you higher performance even with lower Ah. For instance, the 3A HP would give you better performance than a 4A non HP battery even it has shorter run time. The 3A HP is on battery at $49 right now, so $98 for two. The 6A and 9A HP batteries 2-pk are also on sale at $139 and $179, respectively. The per Ah cost with the 9A HP is the same as this 4A non-HP battery. Nevertheless, these are not the lowest price yet..

They're perfectly fine for all Ryobi One tools. They won't provide optimum performance for brushless/HP tools, but they'll still work even for those. I use these with all sorts of tools.

I looked up the difference between the types of batteries and it appears as though they are all practically the same in terms of energy efficiency. I use the standard battery with a high drain tool and it works just fine. The only difference that I noticed is that HP allows for more power with brushless tools or something along those lines. But that comes with the trade off of the battery not lasting as long since it's using more energy.

If you have just normal Ryboi One+ tools, these batteries are great.... Sometimes people don't need the best of the best. $80 for two of these is great. Thanks, I bought a set.

You make some really good points. I checked out the differences some more and like you mentioned, it seems as HP only benefits brushless tools by providing them with more power. So these batteries are good for those that just need more battery life.
