BJ's is smaller than the other two, so I spend less than a hundred bucks there. They have many of the items you find in Costco and Sam's. Their baked goods are different and not as much variety (and taste is not as good). Prices are comparable unless you catch a sale. I went last week and they were out of stock for many of the sale items I wanted. I generally only go to BJ's for sale items IF I am in town and close to one. The nearest one to me is 1.5 hours, so it holds less value for me to stop in every week or two. For $20, it's not really a bad deal; I see it as a lukewarm deal. I certainly wouldn't pay anymore than $20 for an annual membership.
So of the three stores in my order of preference: Costco, Sam's, BJ's.

I don't have a Costco locally, but I prefer BJ's to Sam's Club. Sam's has a lot of goods for small business, but it doesn't have the same variety of foodstuffs, for example.
Beyond the relative price of the $20 groupon vs the $10 online only membership is the question of whether you'll actually buy stuff from the BJs website. I mean, you can visit the webite and see, but since $10 is the regular price, there is no pressure to sign up today.
They don't ever seem to have the caliber of deals I see listed here for Costco.
Just in time too. I purchased this last year around the same time for $25. So my membership is about to expire at the end of the month.
Bought the Groupon. Used the voucher. Updated my BJs membership # online. Easy peasy! I don't even worry about going to get my membership card since I only use the BJs app to checkout at the store. Who wants to go stand inline at the customer service desk.
Sams scan and go is really beneficial. BJs is infinitely better for new parents. BJs provides a lot of coupons for diapers and formula. And after baby is past one year and its skin is not too sensitive, it's worth switching to BJs own branded diapers. They are very cheap and not bad for the price. Babies poop so much that best in class liquid retention is not really needed. You'll be changing diapers frequently enough anyway.
Some observations -
BJs sends out a monthly coupon booklet. It's great and saves a lot of money. But that's not always a blessing. The problem is that you have to do that coupon booklet research to get the best prices. But invariably you will either forget to do that and wonder if you could have saved a few dollars. Or you end up buying extraneous stuff just cause there is a coupon that month. And during checkout you find yourself trying to tear out coupons in time. All of that is part of the quintessential BJs experience
With Sam's you just show up and shop. Not having to worry about tha coupon equation removes a bit of stress.
Now whether BJs with coupon use is cheaper than Sams usual price - I have no clue. Never bothered to that extent.
Plus for Sam's - their scan and go is awesome.
Plus for BJs - we find some of their grocery item sizes are a bit more reasonable than Sam's.
Plus for Sam's - they occasionally will have decent deals on electronics (though they seem to charge shipping for everything under the basic membership).
In the end, both are pretty similar. Neither are worth paying full price of membership, and you never have to if you switch. We alternate between mine and my wife's name and switch between the two from year to year.
