the price match policy is pretty clear detailing what they do and don't do. they told me they don't price match a product on sale, and i clarified that's when they have promotions like a category coupon/gift card. the rep tried to claim:
Clearance, closeout, liquidation sales, damaged, used, open package, refurbished, pre-owned, or rent/lease to own items, storewide or category promotions, offers advertised as % or $ off, non-branded items, or prices that only display on a website after guests log in.
counted, but i was persistent that that doesn't prevent them from matching when someone has a lower sale price.
worst case keep escalating and as long as you're in the right they'll do it. this isn't like forcing them to honor a price mistake. this is a deal from an accepted competitor that meets their guidelines for a match.
He said it's only something that they're telling us here that we're not allowed to price match anything else but Target and target.com until the end of the year. I asked for a supervisor and he told me they were all in a meeting. I said every single supervisor is in a meeting right now at this moment? "Yes."
I said what are you going to do if there's a major problem and you need to get ahold of a supervisor, wait until their meeting is over? He didn't have an answer and just told me to call back in a couple minutes and maybe they would be out of their meeting. I called back again got another guy who did it right away.
TLDR: rep's first day, didn't know how to price match in the computer and just wanted to get out of the call, made up lame excuse.
