But if you'll be using for things that require greater pressure (like thin, soft woods) "The Cricut Maker has 10X the strength and cutting force than any of the Explore family machines. The cutting force of the Cricut Explore Air 2 is 400 grams and the Cricut Maker's cutting force is 4000 Grams."
I understand Maker is also better if you plan to use for sewing projects since it is better equipped to handle the fabrics. Also it has more tools.
Definitely think about realistically what you plan to use for. For me I went with Explore 2 since realistically my projects are on the lighter side--but I wanted more options than the Joy. If you are a heavy user though definitely do your homework and look into Silhouette 4 because it seems to be starting to take over Cricut in terms of abilities (stronger cut abilities, larger materials, offline software, etc)

Mmm you get a month free, that's basically for designs blah blah however when it experience you can always purchase fonts and designs if you like, but it it's not a "your not subscribe, cricut won't work" thing as far as I know! But this is super friendly for beginners, my wife love it

Great thanks. We have an older circuit explore but they end of life'd it so it can't even be used with the software suite anymore. You can only use the local on machine design functions (which are very lacking) or go through hoops to find an old antiquated version of their software to run locally. I'm a big fan of the machines but ours is so old and slow. Looking at this one but don't want to get roped into a monthly bill just to use it.

As far as I know, this will not cut leather. You'll need the Maker for that.

It really comes down to what materials are you planning to use often-if more papercraft/light then this would suit you just fine.

Actually when setting the dial to "custom" you are able to select the type of leather you are using in the software menu for the Explore - but the Maker is truly more equipped to handle various leather due to being stronger so unless you're using thin, soft leather all the time probably best to consider upgrading
