And the lady told me that the SIM card is not valid for T-mobile, and I need to purchase a new one from T-mobile. It's brand new SIM that came with phone, and it says T-mobile.

Return trick for the phone is in "Received" status.
You click the "Cancel" or "Return" on the order page and select the reason. If it works it will pop up an offer 10% off if you not cancel or return.
A lot of people make the mistake when do it.
When there is no pop up to offer. They click the "Cancel" thinking it cancel the cancel process ( abort/ stop/undo... the cancel). But actually it mean to continue to do the cancel process. Then they complain " The cancel trick not work, it cancel my order, I have to order again....."
