They want you to have an account so they can make money off the fees they charge retailers. Some retails pass that fee onto you, usually gas stations.
Anyway I get paid by direct deposit (Postmates) and I've gotten a few bonuses already (Chase and Bank of America), I'm working on the Wells Fargo bonus currently.
These bonuses are hit or miss when there aren't enough reliable data points. Best you can do is ACH push from as many institutions as you can, see how each transaction is labeled/categorized, and hope at least one of them triggers the bonus. Then we can collectively scrape that info and see if clear data points for what does or doesn't qualify as a DD.
